Posted April 2, 200619 yr comment_162033 were there different brackets for the alternator for different years? I got a rebuilt unit that doesn't fit. The bracket is too wide. Got the unit from NAPA, because I didn't want to wait for shipping to & from VB/BD.thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19480-alternator-bracket-differences/ Share on other sites
April 2, 200619 yr comment_162036 As far as I know, no. Sounds to me as if NAPA got you the wrong unit. Probably mis-boxed by their supplier. Have you already returned your core? If not, you can show them the difference so that they will believe you and get another unit. April 2, 200619 yr Author comment_162040 You give them the core when you pick up the new one.If I could get the bracket off, I'd take that to show them. It was a 1/4 inch to big. One ear had something like a bush in the bolt hole that stuck out about 1/4, right?thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19480-alternator-bracket-differences/#findComment-162040 Share on other sites
April 2, 200619 yr comment_162041 For what it's worth, I never give my cores to the parts store at the time I pick up the parts, for this exact reason. You should be able to pay the core charge up front and get it refunded to you when you later return the core. April 2, 200619 yr Author comment_162049 Actually it's 3 bolts and a stud & nut. Unfortunately, one bolt is blocked by the steering rack, so I need to do something else. I might drive it to a service place and get some help. April 22, 200619 yr Author comment_164644 The problem was the rebuilt alternator NAPA gave me wasn't really for my car, even though it had 'HITACHI' on the back of the case, like the oem unit did. I got a Bosch one and it fit's fine. I only have to bolt it on, and get a new belt, then re-wrap the wires, etc.Should I use dielectric grease on the BATT screw, or antisieze, or some plasti-dip or RTV or what? To keep the batt screw from rusting solid, like the old one was. thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19480-alternator-bracket-differences/#findComment-164644 Share on other sites
