Any ideas or suggestions on where to go to get a new early 70 Z console or getting an old one refinished? Seems to be an extremely tough part to find .. :(

Thanks!

Thanks, Joseph, have heard of these guys but hoping there was something closer to home. Also, trying to see if there are any companies that manufacture reproductions.

MSA lists repros in their catalog, no idea how good or if they're really in stock. If they do have them and you get one, please post back as I'd love to hear what you think of it.

They are "local". The have depots in the USA and gather the parts and send them to Australia to be repaired and then sent back. A few guys on this site did a group dash resto from the USA to Australia a few years back.

If you go this route, please let us know how the console turns out.

Thanks, Arne, will check with MSA and see if their repro will work for the early 70 Z.

Joseph, will see where the MSA option takes me and will let you know.

Appreciate the responses!

duffman,

I live about 10 minutes away from MSA and was in recently (like every Saturday!). They have one of the repo consoles on the wall, so I took a look. I think you'll like it. From the outside it looks great. Only when you look inside do you see small differences. These won't show unless you have the ashtray out and are looking very closely.

I have a friend that collects broken ones. He uses parts and pieces to make good ones for his Z cars. He swears by POR 15. I've seen a repair job he has done and it looks almost real. Then again, it's good enough for him as it's one of his daily drivers. Personally, I'd keep a close eye on ebay. I recently picked up a very good 260 console for my 280 for 30 bux. I wanted the slot for the choke cable as I'm running a carb on mine.

Thanks, Bob, the MSA price is reasonable and as long as the console works for the early 70 Z, may be the best answer!

Yukon, good to know the best options to fix up, thanks!

Dewayne, I have heard about Dashboard Restorations (http://www.dashboardrestorations.com.au) as an option for refinishing. Have also heard of prices around $900 to $1,200 to either restore or buy a dash restored. No cheap options!!!:( The half cap for $50 looks pretty good!!
