Posted April 5, 200618 yr comment_162284 Hey, I just picked up my first Z yesterday- a 1970 240Z with a 280ZX Turbo motor and 5-speed transmission. Looks like it will be a bit of work, but even now its a blast to drive. I attached some pictures- let me know what you think! April 5, 200618 yr comment_162298 Actually, it's a 71. Was the turbo motor installed with the right components? ECU, wiring harness, relays, etc? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19504-new-z/#findComment-162298 Share on other sites
April 5, 200618 yr comment_162338 Actually, it's a 71. Was the turbo motor installed with the right components? ECU, wiring harness, relays, etc?Maybe. This is about the time when some were sold as '70 and some as '71 as I recall. April 6, 200618 yr Author comment_162434 Well, tell me if I overpaid... I paid $2000 for the Z as shown, along with all the original parts, an air dam, two different spoilers, two set of wheels, and countless parts from other Z's that the former owner owned. He is actually shipping a truckload of parts to my house, and I will inventory them shortly. In the meantime, if there is any parts you need- wheels, radiators, etc, from a 240 260 or 280, I might have it. He also has the original engine, which I would grab but have nowhere to put. April 6, 200618 yr Author comment_162436 Was the turbo motor installed with the right components? ECU, wiring harness, relays, etc?The turbo motor was installed with the correct ECU, but the wiring job is a bit sketchy. Interestingly, the owner is giving me a video of the engine installation, which may be helpful in the future. The whole car needs to be rewired, but that's a feat that I am willing to tackle. April 6, 200618 yr comment_162457 Hello snarty:It would help if we knew where you were located, you should add that info to your profile.First - grab that original engine - at some point in the future - you never know - you may want to resell the car - and the value of a 240-Z is usually cut in half without the original engine. That may not seem like a big deal today - but it will hurt if the difference is $20K vs $10K.Second - you may have gotten a deal based on parts alone. As for the car, it depends on how solid the body is... ie front frame rails and floorboards, rear quarters etc.... as to exactly HOW GOOD a deal you got. A good solid Series I body with matching engine is at least $4,500.00 here in the South East (that's with shot interior, no bumpers, and needing lots of work). For $2K with the original engine - I'd be buying cars like that all day long. Good luck with the project..FWIW,Carl B.Carl BeckClearwater, FL USAhttp://ZHome.com Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19504-new-z/#findComment-162457 Share on other sites
