My first order of Z car parts was 95 lbs! Two seperate boxes, two deliverys in one day.

Now I can have start building all new Steering, Suspension & Brakes - I got a lot of work ahead of me. And since this is my first time doing anything like this I am very lucky to have a guy who can teach me how!!


You know those tockico springs look great!! On this forum folks have said the tockico's were progressive on the front springs, but the spring coil distances sure look uniform on both pairs you have. Anyone know if these are progressive? I would like to pick up some tockicos if they aren't.

Hey Alissa..Good looking stuff ya got there. One thing I am finding out with the 78 that I am working on is to work from the inside out. I started on the spring/strut assemblies then brakes and what I have come to find is that I'm going backwards. I should have started with the steering compenents first, then struts/ springs then brakes. Since everything is tied to everything else and the steering is in the middle of it all I would have been better off ordering parts and posting questions concerning the steering first. But either way so far so good. I'm going to remove the steering rack/boots/tie rods etc. clean and replace what is needed, then strut/springs then front brakes. This is just my 2 cents here...Unless you steering 'stuff' is okee dokee. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with the front brakes. I am going to go with Modern Motorsports rear disc upgrade kit with the 240sx calipers, but I want the front rotors and calipers to match their kit. That's the part that is making me drink more....This is a great place to ask questions, lot's of good people with good advice.

The Tokico Springs I got are NOT progressive on the front or the rear. Let me know if you would like any more info on them!

I am going to do the steering and suspension all at once replacing a good deal of it. Thanks for letting me know where to start. Pete (my partner in Z crime) says "get a floating caliper assembly for the front similar to a 4th gen Maxima, but I am sure how they would adapt but they would look very similar"

When I rebuilt the suspension on my 240Z I started at the front. The engine was out for a rebuild at the time, which made the front end rebuild easier. I removed the rotors & hubs, front strut assemblies, transverse links, TC rods, steering rack, tie rods, ball joints and crossmember. All parts were cleaned and refinished using Eastwood's chassis black paint. My Z got new Tokico struts & springs too, and new urethane bushings all around.

Once the front suspension was done and reassembled I tackled the rear suspension. I removed the brake drums, rear strut assemblies, transverse links, differential, mounting hardware, etc... Again, everything was cleaned and repainted.

I also removed the fuel line & brake hard lines and cleaned & refinished them using Eastwood's Cad System paint which does a fair job of duplicating the cadmium plating used on these parts.
