I was reading the how to rebuild nissan/datsun engines and he says that the front bearing has a little hole to feed the chain tensioner, is that only for the 4 cyl. he is working on or does the L28 have that hole too, if it does I might have to take my crankshaft out to see if I put the bearing in the right place:paranoid: I cant find anything about that hole in any books or in the FSM I have!

Now you're making me nervous. I was just getting ready to go out to the garage and put my pistons in. :paranoid:

When I put the bearings in this weekend, for each journal only one half had a hole. I assumed that was to provide oil to the crank. Not sure how that would provide oil to the chain tensioner?

Well there is suppose to be holes on all of the bearings that go into the block as you mentioned (not for the cap bearings), but in that book I mentioned, he says that there is an extra small hole on the front bearing that is suppose to feed the chain tensioner:nervous: . But I could not find anything about it in the FSM. Hopefully it is just for the four cylinder he was working on in the book. HELP, Yikes

The main oil galley on the side of the block feeds oil to the chain tensioner on the L6. It's the one that you either tapped and plugged or put hammered a plug into on the front of the block. Actually you kinda have to be careful that you don't plug it when you screw in a pipe plug if that's what you're using, because the hole that feeds to the tensioner really isn't very far in there.
