Posted April 18, 200618 yr comment_164054 Hi all,I'm putting in the dash into my new project('72 240 Z). Near to the steering column there ate two wires hanging down, a yellow and a red one, one with a male and one with a female end.The wiring diagram mentions a "door not closed"-buzzer but I never had such athing in my Z. Do I have to connect these 2 wires or what to do with these? Thanks for helpRolf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19685-red-and-yello-wires/ Share on other sites

April 19, 200618 yr comment_164295 I can't say positively but, you may want to check for current. If there is no warning light or buzzer, I wouldn't worry about them.....just insulate the leads and store them out of the way. It seems that Datsun harnesses have circuits that were never used for a particular model....like the leads for an electric fuel pump on an early 1970. No electric fuel pump came stock on this model year (USA) but the leads are there! April 19, 200618 yr comment_164296 Rolf:Did not see the original post in time to answer. The Red and Yellow wires you found are for the Buzzer that alerts you to your Ignition Key still being IN the Ignition / Steering Lock and the door is opened. The buzzer was normally mounted on the framework that supports the steering column. The switch for it is in the Ignition / Steering Lock housing, typically two wires protruding from the lock cylinder area up top by the key opening. Many people disconnected theirs back in the 70's.Since you don't have (and possibly don't want) this buzzer, simply do as 240zx mentioned, tape the leads with electrician's tape, but don't connect them.
