Do all 240's have side indicators???

Hi there folks,

Sorry if this is an obvious question but I've recently bought a 240z to restore and noticed the one I bought doesn't have side indicators in the rear quarters or the front gaurds. (Australian car by the way)

At first I thought they'd been welded up and bogged over but closer inspection of the back of the panels shows untouched original paint in the matching color to the rest of the body.

I've been a fan of 240's for a long time but can't ever recall whether they all had the rectangular side indicators or not. Every one I look at now that I've noticed has had the indicators.

If someone knows the explanation for this I'd be very interested to know as I've no intention of cutting holes to put them in if I don't have to have them.

Thanks!!!

North American import models had rear quarter red indicators. All models have front indicators.

That statement is a bit ambiguous in the context of the question.

Let me clarify.

No, all models did not have the front indicators that shamus11 is referring to.

Regarding Australian 240z's. They did not have the rear side markers, or the side marker type indicators.

The 240z guards didnt even have the cutout for the side indicators.

They had the indicators with clear lenses in the lower panel under the headlight bucket. Some time in 73 euro style indicators mounted to the bumpers were added

Then with the 260Z (1974) the side marker type indicators were added.

Sound like your car has its original guards shamus11

No you dont have to have them (No legal requirement for them for your year of 240z).

Lots of 240z's that have been "restored" have used guards from 260z's which have the side indicators, or maybe you've looked at alot of pictures of US cars or late 73 cars.

No Australian 240's or 260'z had the rear marker either. No legal requirement for that either.

What year is your car?

The first car is an early 240z, then theres a 260z 2+2, 3rd car is #803, green is a 73 (with euro style bumper indicators). Cant recall what the red car was.

Not sure. They are genuine nissan mirrors, and it also has a Fairlady grill.

Was like that when the owner got it, (but he just sold it a month ago).

Possibly added by a previous owner, maybe bought and added through Datsun/Nissan. I guess we will never know.

I'll ask the guy that just sold it if he knows anymore about it.

Thanks Mr Camouflage for the concise information, I must have been looking at US cars and 260's, once you mentioned that I realised that the main one I looked at, A friend's, was a 260 2 seater (what an ametuer!)

Mine is a 73, must be an early one. very glad to hear I won't need side indicators!

What part of Australia are you in?

There are a few local Z sites I could point you towards.

I'm from Shepparton, Victoria.

I've bought a disassembled car, an unfinnished project so I don't have the luxury of knowing how its all going to go back together but the fella I got it off wrecked three cars for the parts and has spent a lot of money on reconditioning and rechroming so I've got a lot of spares and will hopefully have most of the bits I need.

Well here in NZ we have 240z/260z that are Australia spec, some JDM spec and some imported from UK and other parts of Asia/Pacific. Most don't have the side indicators in the rear (and no holes for such), the lower indicators (below the headlight buckets) are mixed depends on the original market (some euro clear lenses other with the orange lenses), again depends on the market they were originally for but some don't have the side indicators or holes for them - much like what Mr Camouflage has already stated.
