*New* comp crankshaft damper

Anyone here running the new comp damper? More to the point anyone running the new damper with the Electomotive HPV crankfire wheel? I have some questions on how you mounted it.

gtzilla, link me up to the damper your talking about. I've got a crank trigger set up MINUS the damper.

My trigger wheel needs to be welded (tacked) to damper, and a slotted (to adjust timing) bracket needs to be fab'ed for the pickup.

I think you'll find more of those on hybridz.org. I'm not sure if the damper is the same as Nissan sells, but there are a few guys running ATI dampers and BHJ dampers, and crankfire as well.

I resisted posting because you specifically mentioned the Nissan damper. I'm currently using the HPV setup on an ATI application with a custom machined hub from them. Not to get too far off subject, but I personally feel this is a better solution to the Nissan one. Anyways, wheel is mounted on the back of the hub, actually on the water pump pulley, between the pulley and the front cover. The hub is drilled/tapped with 6 #10 countersunk screws. It's worked flawlessly thus far.

The engine is in peices, but I could take some pics of it installed on the hub I guess, and maybe of the sensor bracket too?

I'll take some digi pics and post them this weekend. The damper is all new, not like the older rubber damped two piece unit, and is SFI approved. I had the old one and the HPV trigger wheel was mounted as Preith mentioned. I had priced a custom damper from ATI (IIRC) and it was like $800 at the time, which I thought was highway robbery. I'm not sure who is making these for Nissan. Maybe once I post the picture one of you will be able to ID it.

$800 seems a bit high. The custom hub should cost you around $150, and the damper itself is an "off the shelf" item which you can buy from Summit for example, at about $300. I beleive The damper is listed as a big block Chevy application, but you could probably find out from ATI. I dealt with Jim Beattie, the owner, and I can't say enough about his customer service.

Yes I thought $800 was pretty high. But when I asked (maybe 3 years ago) the only one made was the comp damper. It would have been a one off design built to my specs. Nissan told they were in the process of redesigning theirs. So I waited and got the comp damper.

I didn't get a chance to take a picture this weekend, my stupid camera was dead, but I did get all the parts down to the machinist for balancing. I *should* have it all back late next week and I'll mock it up and get the trigger wheel set for attaching to the damper.
