Started my WIAI project

Well, Southern CAlifornia weather has no allowed me to strat refreshing my Z. It has 24,000 miles and my Faher-in-law purchased it new, and has been in his garage for MANY years. The tags on the plate are from 1982. Thought that I would post some pictures for all to see. At least the car does not need Mull to rebuild it. You can't detail from the photo, but the dealer installed wheels have the original Bridgestone tires. Think that I am going to remove the tires and reinstall them on the original steel wheels sitting in my shed.

Getting ready to pull the carbs and send them to Z Therapy. I had hoped to have the car running for the MSA weekend, but doubt it now. The fuel tank is at the shop being boiled and then I plan to POR the inside. There was rust in the gas when I drained the tank, so I think this is a prudent idea.

I have been reading all the posts by ya'll for sometime now, and even though this is my first attempt on working on a Z, I feel that I have an army of help available. If i don't visit this site daily, i feel that I go thought DTs.

It has a dealer installed AC setup, but I need to have the compressor rebuilt and I am trying to locate a good shop in the Inland Empire to do this. Anyone have a referral for me? Thanks guys and

Greetings, Randy, and welcome! Please keep us posted on your project. I love the pictures, your car is very similar to my goal for mine. Unfortunately, I have a lot farther to go than you do.

If the tires are indeed Bridgestone, if I recall correctly Kats (member in Japan) is very interested in those.

DO post the particulars on them, as he would be ecstatic if you would be willing to exchange them.

Kats needs the very early Bridgestone 175SR14 Super Speed 20's. This car more than likely had the 175HR RD-150's.

With only 24K miles I wouldn't seen any need to send them to Z Therapy - just pull the tops off and clean them out. Unless the Cad Plating on the hardware has gone bad - but even then, I believe that you can just replace the Cad Plated hardware with parts from ZP. The carb.'s certainly shouldn't need to be re-bushed at this point.

Agreed - also while the tank is off - don't forget to clean the fuel lines out..you can pour some carb cleaner into the lines from the front of the car, and in a few minutes blow it out with a little compressed air.

There may be somewhere in Washington state that is referred to by that name as well, but the Inland Empire in Ca is the Ontario/Chino/Claremont area. About 30 miles or so East of LA proper.

Thanks for all the positive responses! I reread my post and found way too many spelling errors, gotta remember to spel chek from here on out. I'll take the AC compressor over to ARA Stephen. The original dealer sure picked a strange side to mount that compressor on, that being the drivers side. Seems like there is alot more room on the passenger side.

The tires are indeed Bridgestones, but like Carl has mention they are the 175HR14s. The wheels are Appliance judging from the A on the caps.

Thanks for the tips Carl. If I can get away with just cleaning the carbs out, no reason to spend $600 at Ztherapy. I'll try that first.

Finally the Inland Empire (and for those of you that watch the OC also refered to as the 909) that I refer to stretches from Pomona to San Bernardino and down to Riverside.

You don't say what type compressor you have, so I'll assume because you mention "dealer installed" that it's the huge bulky piston job of old!

If you wish to keep the car "period" and as it came from the dealer, then by all means have that compressor rebuilt.

However, if keeping it "period" is not all that important to you, I would strongly suggest you go ahead and switch to the much smaller and more effective rotory model. It will also provide less drag on the engine when in operation.
