What I don't see in your description is wiring for the trigger plug on the back of the MSD unit. If you use the trigger, then you can eliminate the module on the side of the distributor. I had mine wired up with the module to start, then later eliminated the module and used the MSD's internal module.

Sorry John, I didn't see your post until now. I was not aware you could even do this. I simply followed the MSD instructions and all the threads I have read to date. Also, based on my understanding, the violet/green wires were intended to be used with a crank based magnetic pickup, but I'm a noob at this stuff too so I suppose it's possible. Sounds like you have it working.

No hard evidence, but from getting zapped before and after I can say that the MSD does a better job of it.

I'm not sure why using the MSD's trigger would make a difference in the voltage being sent to the coil. But I can see the logic in not using a trigger to trigger a trigger. :) Either way, the MSD unit is sending a full +12 volts to the coil.

I don't know ChrisA if this helps but here's an MSD 6A hookup I used with the Mallory Unilite Breakerless (LED) Distributor and Mallory Promaster Coil. Thanks to Dave Irwin (ZsOnthebrain) it works flawlessly and my engine runs super especially since my plugs are gapped at .060" . The nice thing is that my stock 240z Tach works as well.

I've attached the documentation for my hookup as well as a few high level engine photos.

Many thanks ...
