Posted April 22, 200618 yr comment_164592 Ok just picked up a 78-81 distributor off ebay. From this place called PLANET AUTO PARTS. It seems like it was a great deal. It is a remanafactured Diz for $112.00. It appears to be in great shape new bearings, plates and the such. The one thing im curious about is the the module doesnt have any markings on it except "IGN-02" Does anybody have any idea if this a aftermarket module or what???? I dont want to do the upgrade this weekend if it is the wrong module. B.T.W I read over 100 posts on this before i asked. April 23, 200618 yr comment_164660 If there are no markings then it is a aftermarket part . The proper module has two spade connector's on the top , there are two small ones that connect to the coil inside the dist . That's it . The wrong module has more large connector's. Be vary sure that you connect the leads properly or you can ruin the module . April 23, 200618 yr Author comment_164719 Thanks Gary, I thought i read somewhere that ther where two differant modules for the D6 dist. Must have been something else.BTW swaping the ZX dist. to my early 260 was easy! got rid of a bunch of wires in the process .Mainly my whole safety interlock system as well as the old ignition system plus the egr relays.MUCH CLEANER UNDER THE HOOD NOW:love: I know there is about a bizillion posts on this swap and i swear to god i have read for 20 hours straight. But as usual i came acrossed something differant My fixing plate wouldnt allow me to advance the timing beyond 8 degrees.I bought a new pedastol from the dealer to use with this diz but i didnt get the fixing plate. So i just used my old one my 260 had to enlarge the slots for the bolts.I dont know if this was ok but i am running at 18 btdc now Unfortunally i cant get my rpms above 3000 it starts to fade the wierd thing is that it only happens on the hill by my house i read lots of threads on this too The best i can figure is that i need new plugs EVERYTHING else is new.It wasnt a problem before the swap??????? Also thanks to arne for the reply still havent got a new digital camera Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19729-great-deal-on-zx-dizzy-ebay/#findComment-164719 Share on other sites
April 23, 200618 yr comment_164723 New plug wires fixed this limited rev problem for me but it sounds like you already replaced those? On a seperate note, I also bought a reman 280ZX dizzy on eBay for $79 which came with an e-12-80 IGN module. I have been happy with it until yesterday when I noticed that the dizzy wobbles just a little bit while the car is running. I'm assuming this means the dizzy shaft is slightly bent. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19729-great-deal-on-zx-dizzy-ebay/#findComment-164723 Share on other sites
April 24, 200618 yr Author comment_164750 Good call enigma The P.O. told me that the wires were new.Ive only put about 300 miles on it in a year. So i just figured they were ok.I checked them with my ohm meter and two of them were out of spec. When i went to buy new wires i picked up some octane boost and 5 gallons of fresh gas.I dont know which one fixed it but it pulls nicely now.I think sometimes its the easy stuff that is overlooked. April 24, 200618 yr comment_164755 I'm sure your problem was either bad gas or bad plug wires, octane boost is a complete waste of money. In a can of octane boost you get 8 oz of tolulene and xylene for $8 (look on the bottle, they usually say what's in there). Go to the hardware store and you can buy a gallon of either for $9. The two solvents are 114 octane and 118 octane, respectively. That little bottle will raise your octane by .1 which isn't enough to do much of anything. Do a quick google and you'll find home octane booster brews. They work, but you need A LOT more than 8 oz to make a significant difference. Oh, and if you don't NEED the octane, you'll probably LOSE power by raising the octane.
