280zx Ignition Coil

HELP!!!

Where can i get a 1982 280zx Ignition coil in Australia,

Repco, Super-cheap even the Nissan Dealership cant get me one, the Dealership has a listing for the coil, but its $185AUD,

Got to be able to get one of these locally at a reasonable price, i've tried Warren at allzparts and he had a used one for me, but nothing eles,

Anyone know where i can get one?

When I replaced mine I also had trouble finding one through the normal suppliers. I ended up contacting Bosch and they found me one through

a wholesale supplier;

It's a fairly standard part. Just go to any parts store and have them look up a replacement. If not, you can always grab one from the junk yard out of a car with electronic ignition. When I converted my original 240Z dizzy to a 280ZX dizzy, I grabbed a coil and bracket from a 1980 Datsun B210 with elec ignition. It cost me $3 and worked like a charm.

Someone who understands and can articulate the differences between coils designed for points vs. elec ignitions should probably chime in here.

As I understand it the difference is basically in the amount of resistance, with the elec ign coils and high performance coils having less resistance. Supposedly this can be a problem in a points based system for reason I don't fully understand, and a desired thing in a high perf application.

You didn't say whether the car was a turbo or not. The turbo coils are much different than the n/a coils. The n/a coils are readily available but the turbo coils have an ignition module in conjunction with them and that is the spendy part.

If you've done the EI conversion, you need a low ohm, 12volt coil like the ZX (fat) coil to use without the ballast resistor.

However there are cheaper alternative - you buy a coil for a 1980 310 (210), it also used the EI dizzy, the coil meets the same specs, it's the same diameter as the stock coil and is much cheaper.
