The Wizard Of Z Posted April 24, 2006 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2006 hello its nice to join you all, ive been looking for a site like this for a very long time, its nice to have a site like this that pretty much covers any questions and solutions a z owner mite have, well i have my very first z car, its a 1972 204 z, its been completely rebuilt from the ground up, and it has a new 280 z engine with dual round top su carbs and a 280z 5 spd transmission, it was originally for a buddy of mine but he didnt want it anymore, so i joined in and helped him and his dad build it and then later i bought, it just hit 10k miles on the engine, and is now 6 years old since we built it, i have many problems though and hopefully someone can give me some answers, i have problems with over heating, reverse lights not comming on, rough starts and still runs for a couple of second when i shut the car off, gas and temp gauges do not work, here a couple of pics if you care to look, thank you guys for letting me join and have a great day!http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/xfaln2piecesx/mycar18.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/xfaln2piecesx/mycar15.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/xfaln2piecesx/mycar14.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/xfaln2piecesx/mycar13.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/xfaln2piecesx/mycar12.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/xfaln2piecesx/mycar11.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/xfaln2piecesx/mycar10.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/xfaln2piecesx/mycar9.jpg

The Wizard Of Z Posted April 25, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted April 25, 2006 thanks its actually not suppose to be that color, the idiots that painted it ****ed up and made it way to dark, so people mistake it for purple all the time, its suppose to be blue to match in the inside, im gonna get it repainted sometime

=Enigma= Posted April 25, 2006 Share #8 Posted April 25, 2006 Hey there. Nice car.Regarding the overheating, I'd start checking all the usual stuff. Coolant level, radiator cap, thermostat, blocked hoses. The heater not working may be related to the cooling problem. It is possible that the heater lines are clogged preventing water from properly circulating through the system. Anyway, I have never diagnosed a cooling system on a Z. I suggest using the SEARCH function as I am sure this has already been covered many times. The SEARCH feature is you friend. Get to know it well. Cheers,
The Wizard Of Z Posted April 25, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted April 25, 2006 hey thanks ill have to check for the over heating, cause i know nothing about that sort of stuff, after i get my heating issues fixed maybe someone can tell me a magical way to get more miles per gallon for my car, its nice to have this fast arse car and all, it does well over 160 mph but takes 91 octain only and i get about 14 miles to the gallon on a 13 gallon tank =/
beandip Posted April 25, 2006 Share #10 Posted April 25, 2006 Sounds like the heater problems are due to the cables becoming disconnected. There is a water shut off valve up under the dash on the passenger side up on the firewall . If it is closed you will have zero heat. Run on problem could be from too rich a setting on the carbs and a timing issue . check the timing and set a 10 deg BTDC , and the next gas put hi-test . It could also be carbon causing the run on , the hi-test may help . There is a reverse light switch for the back up lights , I don't know your trans but it should be down on the trans . The heating could also be a result of a retarded timing . By the way I think the color is awesome . Gary
The Wizard Of Z Posted April 25, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted April 25, 2006 k thanks for the advice guys i found my reverse light switch some how though the wires were ripped from each other so i attachted them and now my lights work again, also got my heater working, now all i need to do is find door parts for my passenger side, i can only open the door from the inside, i have the handle for the outside, but within the door appears to be missing a rod or two that attaches, and i screws so that i can attach the handle from the outside, anyone know where i can these parts for?
