Fan won't blow, lights wont glow

My 73 240 is having a problem and I thought some of you brilliant folks could help. The fan stopped blowing and at the same time the interior light and map light have stopped working. I can "hot wire" the fan and it works fine, but without that...nothing.

Need more info? Any Ideas?!?!

Thanks!

Check the fuse box. If the fuse to the interior lights looks ok it is probably the connection on the box its self. They tend to fry, it is the 3rd fuse down on the right side of the box. If it is fried it can be fixed or you can buy a new updated box (best way to go IMO but they cost $200) with a circut board. The original boxes have a tendancy to melt the plastic around the fuse and can catch on fire, real pain in the @ss.

From his description of losing BOTH the Heater Fan AND the interior lights, I'm wondering if you recently installed a new radio or done some work in that area.

Both items, Heat. Fan and Int. Lights get their power THROUGH the Ignition Switch

The Heater Fan has an In-Line Fuse instead of being fused through the fuse box. Check that fuse also.

If that fuse is OK, then more than likely you lost the connection FROM the Ignition Switch TO the Heater Fan and then to the fuse box. You can also confirm this by checking for power between the terminals of the AC fuse in the fuse box.

FWIW

WEll well well... It did all happen shortly after installation of a new radio! Very interesting!!!

I'm going to pull out the old melted fuse box (which I have to wiggle almose nightly to get the running lamps to light and replace it. $200 sounds a little steep, but I'm over this particular pain in the @ss! :)

Thanks for all the help!!!

OR....

You could see about buying an "old" style fuse box from either a boneyard or another member and checking out Dave's(Zs-ondabrain) Headlight and Parking Light Relay harness upgrade kits. The money you would spend would be about ... the same, give or take, and you would REALLY be correcting / improving the system.

Just my 2¢
