Posted April 29, 200618 yr comment_165493 I need some help. Another 280z has blown my way. It is super un-rusty 1977. No rust in all the usual places and darn straight. Its a 4sp with air cond that does not work but is all there. It has a ratty interior and a cracked dash. It runs and drives with a cracked winshield. The stereo hole is cut wider and its just sittting on stock rims. The guy wants 1000 bucks for it. What do you all think??. April 29, 200618 yr Author comment_165494 I better add it runs but rough. The shifter is super sloppy and the motor runs on 3 cylinders. Brakes need gone through also. April 29, 200618 yr comment_165496 Sounds pretty rough to have no rust and be straight. I would get under it, and really probe for rust and filler, but if it truely has NO Rust, and it was close, I would take $800 cash and wave it in the face of the owner-starting with $400! April 30, 200618 yr Author comment_165557 I allready waved the cash..no deal. The are 1k firm. I ripped up the carpets and pried off the undercoat........solid as a rock. Spare tire still in place. Whats funny is I am contemplating this car when the local paper has..get this........2 z cars for 1k. Yea......2 for oneK!! I went and looked at them and they are beyond roachy. The first car still has me thinking. I would be starting with a really solid body and that means alot. The darn battery box was not even rusty which blew me away Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19834-whats-it-worthnon-rusty-1977help/#findComment-165557 Share on other sites
April 30, 200618 yr comment_165563 A solid body with no to very little rust? If so then hell yes it's worth a $1,000.00 even if it does run rough. Thats just my opinion. Sounds like a great project Z to me if your looking for one. April 30, 200618 yr comment_165606 I'd go for it also. If you don't, someone else will. Parts that can be removed/replaced (dash, seats, radio cover, etc..) is easier in the long run, than one with a perfect interior and no floors. But then if it turns into a nightmare, there is alway the "parting out" option, and some of the parts I've seen sell on eabay, you could still come out ahead. May 1, 200618 yr Author comment_165687 Thanks for all your help. Someone with a little less indesicion than me snapped it up. My area is just loaded with these Zars so another will pass by. Some are rust buckets and some are just rust free here. It rains so many of them are garage kept and they do not use salt on the roads here yet in the winter. I allready have the one that I started on but I have the bug for these cheap lil bugger. I plan on gettin a few more while they are still super cheap. As the one guy put it they dont make them any more so the appreciation gods will one day smile on them.
