Hey Mike, great picts!! Where was this show at?

It's less of a show and more of a race. It's the Walter Mitty historic sports car race at Road Atlanta. This year features Japanese cars and Nissan was supposed to sponsor the event but then backed out. Mazda took over instead. Despite the Japanese emphasis there are many other makes racing and on display. There were even some "retired" NASCAR cars and open wheel Formula cars. I got to do some touring laps in my 240Z at speeds of up to about 70mph.

Mike G,

This event had its own gallery under "events" when I posted them in 2004. I'm probably going to post a bunch tonight and will make a gallery for them. Waddaya mean "where was this show at"? Too focused on that weenie show out there in westcoast land? This was racing, dude! An event that will be published in all the mags. MSA prolly won't even get a bi-line! ...where was this show at....

Great pictures MikeW!

I've do have more pictures than what I uploaded but I can't be sure if I have any others of the cars you want. Can you point out which of the pictures I've already uploaded feature the cars you're interested in? All of my pictures are 6 Mega-pixels so I had to shrink them in order to upload. I've also got quite a few 640x480x30fps videos that you might be interested in.

Sorry, it doesn't look like I have any more of those after all. The Dads car is a replica and actually belongs to Georgia Z club member Alan Poindexter (that's him in my picture). He had the car on the trailer up near the Ga Z club tent for the whole event so I never saw it being driven. It's actually for sale if you're interested. At a minimum I'm sure he can get you pictures.

I also couldn't find another picture of the Frisselle car. Chris (26th-Z) may have taken some pictures of it as we were looking at it together when I took mine. He used a film camera so we'll have to wait a while to find out.

Just posted a dozen pictures. Let's get this into the events folder! The 2006 Mitty featuring Japanese cars! It was a lovely weekend at Road Atlanta in as much as it didn't rain. Friday was beautiful, but Saturday turned cold for this Florida boy and very windy. I drove up from Sarasota Thursday night. A full seven hours of aggressive interstate "hammer down". I spent Friday meeting people and had a lot of fun looking up old friends. The Mitty is one of the premier events on the historic racing circuit. Put on by HSR and Classic Motorsports magazine, historic racers turn out in droves for a full weekend of racing, parade laps, seminars and club events. This year, the focus was on Japanese cars sponsored by Mazda. Frankly, I was a little dissappointed in Mazda. I was looking for Walt Bohren and the famous Racing Beat Mazda RX7 - a car I haven't seen in twenty years, but no luck. The Georgia Z Club was kind enough to let me horn in on their tent and post a Florida Z Association banner. I was selling t-shirts and caps and making contacts for our upcoming events. Hector Cademartori was kind enough to sit down and sign a number of Mitty posters for me. Then I ran into Hal Crocker - famous, famous, famous racing photographer. I bought a lovely water-color from artist Steve Petrosky (one that Ron Carter should have come to the Mitty for), and schmoozed a bunch with the Classic Motorports guys. Toby Bean showed up with his newly acquired 300ZX GTS car - the Cunningham that won the 1994 Daytona 24 Hour Race - complete with a new engine from the one he trashed at Sebring last fall. This event had more Zs, 510s, and roadster race cars than I have seen at a race in a L O N G time. Ron Carter, you missed it, fella. Big mistake not towing all the way across America for this one! I can't tell you how much fun I had! I finally met MikeW and hung with him. I just had the best time!

Now, I took three rolls of film, but I can't find one of them. Need to go home and search around. Probably more pictures to come.
