Sorry, it doesn't look like I have any more of those after all.

Well, you're in luck. While I didn't take any other pictures of the car, it turns out that my 6 year old son did. I took him up on Sunday and we had a great time. I gave him my old digital camera and let him take pictures of cars. Some of the owners and drivers were nice enough to let him climb into and pretend to drive some of the cars. The second picture here is a still frame from a video I took of him. How many of you grown-ups would like a chance to sit in the winning car from the 1994 24-hours of Daytona?

I bought a lovely water-color from artist Steve Petrosky (one that Ron Carter should have come to the Mitty for), and schmoozed a bunch with the Classic Motorports guys.

Wow what did you find? post a pic please....

This event had more Zs, 510s, and roadster race cars than I have seen at a race in a L O N G time. Ron Carter, you missed it, fella. Big mistake not towing all the way across America for this one!

Chris, I would have really liked to have been there. I spoke to Hector at MSA and he filled me in, it sounds like Datsuns and Porsches were the two largest participants.

The reality of the matter is as follows:

I attend a trade show twice a year, it is where I generate the most business for my company, and it was Wednesday Thru Friday of last week. I had to be there, In San Fransisco. There just was no way for me to tow my car across the country and make the trade show.

The cost. With gas prices in the upper stratasphere it would have cost me a small fortune to tow out there, and I still would not be home yet...

I cant take that much time away from my company. Driving across country is a luxury that I could not afford to do...too much time away from the helm.

We had promises of sponsorship that faded into nothing. If i could have worked out a way to get my car there. I would have, and I would have flown out there just to be there. believe me, I wanted to. Les and I flirted with the idea of flying out anyway....

Instead I went to the Solvang Roadster show and MSA with both the Z and my roadster. I ran into Mac Tilton of BRE fame at the solvang roadster show and Bob Klemme and I both had our race cars there, probably one of the last times you will see 2 original 67.5 2000 race roadsters together at one time, as Bob is selling his roadster.

Chris, I would like to make Daytona in 07. In the mean time I will watch my copy of 900 crooked miles a few more times and wish i could have been there. :) :) :)

Yes Chris what's the latest on Daytona '07?

The latest on Daytona? We are getting our presentation togeather for the ZCCA annual meeting. If they give us the thumbs-up, we're rock-n-roll for October '07.

Ron,

I met a guy - Steve Petrosky - and bought a water-color from him. It's a John Morton BRE CP 240Z scene. He is also selling 250 prints - signed and numbered. I can't scan the water-color. It's too big. I will take a photo of it and send it to you. I have Petrosky's info as well. I would have easily bought a print but some lucky already bought print #26!

You Left-coasters definitely need to keep the Daytona Z-vention in mind. Probably the best thing to do is get a car hauler involved and I have budgeted some financial assistance for that, but it all depends on sponsorship. Why don't you guys get together and brainstorm some potential sponsors to pay for a car hauler. I have a marketing package coming together and, like I say, as soon as we get the nod from ZCCA, we start looking for money.

Just posted more pictures to the gallery http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=3299

Now the Mitty wasn't just Datsun 240Zs and roadsters as one might think from looking at all our pictures. There were some other very special gars there.

Sorry I missed you at the Mitty. I was there on Thursday driving an '88 Aston Martin Group C car and it ate a valve guide. I'm not much of a spectator so I headed home. To answer your question about the Racing Beat RX-7 that I won the '80 GTU Championship with, it was totaled at Mosport when Jim Downing passed out from heat exhaustion in Turn 2. The sister car that Jim Mederer built the year before was sold and raced by someone else. Racing Beat might know where it is.

The RX-2 that I won the '78 Sedan championship was there.

Toby Bean and I are friends, and I have driven both his GTP Nissan and the GTO 300Z which has more hp than the GTP with alot less grip. You can't give it full throttle until the wheel is completely straight and then it will spin the rear tires when you upshift all the way to top gear. It is insane!

Walt
