Gotta tell ya 'bout this.

I took my Lady Zed for a run this morning and stopped off at the shop on the way home.

When I came out of the shop, there was a bloke looking at my "Precious". I've noticed him at the shopping centre a few times. Have to be patient and understanding with him, as there's only fifty cards in his deck.

As I placed my purchases in the car the bloke said, in a deep monotone, "This yours ??".

I said "Yes, it is".

He said, "I like sports cars, what is it".

I was tempted to play it smart and say, "It's a car", but I thought that, as this bloke seemed to be at least one sandwich short of a picnic, I'd play it straight so I said, "It's a Datsun 260Z".

He then asked, "Who makes 'em?".

OOPS !, I figure all the gas has leaked out of this fellows Pepsi.

I say, "Nissan".

"Nice colour", he said.

"Yep", I said.

"Is it fast?".

"Yep".

"Nice colour".

"Yep".

I'm thinking, "This bloke shouldn't be out on his own".

I drew his attention to a bright red MGB that had just pulled in and said,"That's a nice, shiny red car isn't it?".

"Yair", he said.

I suggested that he should go and talk to the nice man who drives the bright red car.

"Yair", he said, "Nice colour", as he walked towards the MGB.

As I drove away I congratulated myself on being such a nice fellow by sending him over to talk to the MGB's owner. A couple of weeks ago, in that same shopping center, he pulled in next to my "Precious" and as he was climbing out I said, "Nice car mate". "Yair", he said, "better than a Zed", and walked off. I was dumbfounded. Totally lost for words. Gee, I was glad my "friend" went over to talk to him.

You're right. Absolutely unfathomable. Totally incredulous. Fantastically astounding. Ridiculously amazing. Superfluously stupendous and magnanimously superior! I too am at a total and complete LOSS for words. Now. LOL

Hey! Settle down there. I have an MGB as well as my Z. Both are very nice cars, but, at least in my mind, serve different purposes/markets. Also, most of the MGB people I know have no problems with Z's (or other classic cars) or their owners, and would never make such an idiotic comment.

I have always teased by older brother who owns his original 71 MGBGT and a 67 Austin Healey 3000 MK4, that if either company had been smart enough to make a car to supercede those it would be the Z. The model code for the Healey 3000 was BJ8, and I told him I would put a plate on my Z, BJ9, just to wizz him off. Yes, great cars, but obsolete as they were built. Back in the late 60's and early 70's the Z took over where they left off.
