mikesolis27 Posted May 1, 2006 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2006 Has any one had any trouble with bad idle or backfiring. I took it to a mechanic and he told me it was the air flow meter. I bought another one and the car is still doing the same thing. I have a hard time starting it and it has momments of running good and momments of it bogging down. Need info if you have ever had this problem. Its a 1978 Datsun 280Z fuel injectes L28 4 speed.
Arne Posted May 1, 2006 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2006 It's obviously injected, but it would help if we knew more about your car - like the year, engine, any mods, etc.

280z1975 Posted May 1, 2006 Share #4 Posted May 1, 2006 1978 Z fuel injected L28 Engine 4 speedIs the backfire and rough idle only at the start? Some things to look for is rust in the fuel line, so check the fuel filter.Look at the air intake and look for anything that could be loose. Try running some fuel injector cleaner through the system to help burn off stuff. My 75' FI L28 idles rough after a cold start untill I rev the engine and then back it off. It was having a few backfires when I put the car back together after a two months apart, but it stopped after a drive or two.
Grim Posted May 1, 2006 Share #5 Posted May 1, 2006 Look for air leaks in the rubber boot between the flow meter and throttle body.
