Wiring question????

Recommended Posts

Z Saint:

My "defroster" plug goes to the rear defog switch. On the harness side it has three wires: red w/ black trace, black and blue. On the switch side, the red wire connects to the blue, a green w/ red trace connects to the red w/ black trace, and black connects to black. Here some extra pics:

Pic #1: rear of console panel. From left to right--choke light, seat belt warning light, rear defog.

Pic#2: closeup of connector between dash harness and defog switch leads.

Hope it helps!

Steve

Loren do you have a lighted switch or a plain black one? If it is the solid black one the wires are red and green coming from the console switch. They hook up to red/black and blue wire with a fuse holder in it. They are located on the right side of the radio.

I am confused. What wires come from your defogger switch? What are the colors of the connector wires that it plugs in to?

OK--sorry to be confusing....

Three wires from my lighted defog switch( far right on pic #1 previous post): Black, Red and Green w/red tracer. At the connector (second image), black connects to black, Green w/red connects to Red w/ black tracer and Red connects to Blue.

Hope that clarifies it some,

Steve

Mr. Saint,

Is your console "fuse access" door the one that holds your defogger switch like in xrays picture?? the reason I ask is because my 71 Z has the defogger

switch down in the middle of the console near the choke lever.

If you have the same as I do, then maybe i can help. Ive taken out my console several times, and the harness and choke cables run up the left underside of the console, the choke cables keep going thru the firewall, but the defogger harness stops just past the front end of the console on the left side. If you look around that area under the radio, behind the fusebox kinda,

you should see that same little white plug like in xrays picture. it should be right there where you can see all the wiring thats going to the fuseblock, it just branches off a few inches.

if you have the switch up by the fusebox, the plug should look the same but

if might be in a slightly different location, but fairly close to the back of the fusebox area as well.

I assume my switch is lighted. It is "orange" and appears to have a light in it. Jackboxx I do have the single switch in the console just like yours. I have the 3 wire(s) in the black casing running up the left side of the console with the choke cables. It runs up under the dash. We had a "grounded" red wire that fed the blower switch. We unplugged the small lead that goes into the fuze box and it was no longer grounded. The 3-way switch now works. Could that connector that we unplugged have been for the defogger? I just need to know the colors of the wires that feed into the defogger switch. (female connector?)

I have solved the horn dilemma. I have fixed the radio and antennae wiring. The blower now works. All I have left is the connector for the defogger. You guys are really close. Just give me the wire colors. I think I had the wrong plug plugged into the defogger connector. Maybe it was an extra that should not have been plugged in. What do you think?

Did you check my post? I thought I included them....

I will check out the wiring on Monday. I believe you guys have solved my problem.

XRay: What program are you using for the pic with the inserts? I would like to be able to do this with my pics. Software? Download? Remember, I am an old guy and learned computers by the trial and error method. So be gentle!!!

Actually, it's all XP-based programming imbedded in the OS itself. In XP Service Pack 2, if you click on a picture it will open the photo in the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer." The second-to-last button on the right will open up the VERY basic Windows Photo Editor (called "paint" when you go under the Start>Programs>Accessories path). While it's somewhat intuitive, it is very rudimentary except for the most basic tasks like drawing arrows, adding notes, resizing. It works well for what it does, but Photoshop it ain't...

Good luck,

Steve
