May 11, 200618 yr comment_167153 It wouldn't be very difficult to do. There's no need for a Lambda sensor and you would only need to put some sheet metal shielding to protect the underside of the car from the heat of the cat.I would mount a short converter similar to this one: http://tinyurl.com/ejufc in the transmission tunnel after the transmission mount. The more difficult part will be maintaining your air/fuel ratio near 14.7 to 1 to keep the converter happy. May 11, 200618 yr Author comment_167177 Hello thanks for the feedback, of cause I would go for the not regulated version. Everything else is too complicated. And It should look quite original. But the suggested carb is exact what is in my mind and it's easy to replace by for the premuffler. The only question is, does it reduce the exhaust fumes ? The fumes with open windows after a stop at the traffic light, are really weird. 20 year ago this was normal, but today we that we can do it better . Maybe there is some experience from 280Z's who removed their cat converter? Cheers Rainer Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19946-influence-cat-converter-on-carb-260z/#findComment-167177 Share on other sites
May 11, 200618 yr comment_167178 The fumes with open windows after a stop at the traffic light, are really weird. 20 year ago this was normal, but today we that we can do it better .The above problem is more an issue with engine tuning then whether a cat is installed. My daily driver 240Z with SU carbs starts stinking at stoplights if I have not adjusted the carbs properly. Otherwise, the car is fine. June 22, 200618 yr Author comment_171933 Hello to all, I installed now a catalytic converter instead of my pre muffler. It's the best modification I made. 90 € And now the car doesn't have any exhaust fumes in every condition. . Sound and power hasn't changed too. But I agree that the first step should be to finetune the carbs. Best wishes Rainer Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19946-influence-cat-converter-on-carb-260z/#findComment-171933 Share on other sites
