Posted May 15, 200618 yr comment_167518 The pics aren't great but I think it's out of an '81-'83 because it's got that little plate on top of it. Any guesses, I may try to buy it if it is a later 5-speed? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/20050-what-kind-of-5-speed-is-this/ Share on other sites

May 15, 200618 yr Author comment_167530 I thought the small plate was an inspection plate that was only present on the early 5-speeds. maybe i need my medication, HAHAHAHAHA. May 15, 200618 yr comment_167536 Looks like an FS5W71B. See Carl Beck's ID chart here: http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/69-83TrannyShifterDrawing.jpgThis transmission looks the same as a 4-speed, so make sure it's a 5-speed. May 15, 200618 yr Author comment_167562 Yeah, it's either a 4-speed or an early 5-speed from the looks of that attachment. Thanks for all the help. May 15, 200618 yr comment_167564 One way to tell is that the later ones (81-83) only have one mounting ear back below the the shifter on the left side of the trans. The one in the picture you posted has two mounting ears back there and one of those is broken but it's definately an early trans. May 15, 200618 yr comment_167606 That looks like a 4 speed. Check out my gallery here for the pics of the differences of 4 spd, early 5 spd and the late 5 spd.
