Posted May 16, 200618 yr comment_167636 okay i was looking at www.zdriver.com 's forums and i read...that you can bolt on a turbo....it wasnt that which amazed me but i wanted to know if you can bolt on the stock turbo manifold and turbo from the L28ET and that if it requires most of the relays and electric stuff etc. except from ecu and wirring harnes......but can you really do that..i wanna know more and how and what will i need? May 19, 200618 yr comment_168008 wow,no answers, useless buggers eh.Well yes you can,get the turbo off a z31 rather than a l20et the early VG30et turbos are a better size, the l20et spools a little early so i was told.I am doing the same thing.Get the turbo, oil lines,j pipe, exhaust manifold and add an intercooler if you want. With an l20et turbo, youll get about 9psi boost, with a vg30et...no idea, just what ive read.Good luck, keep us that are interested informed as you go.Cheers and go for it!!! May 19, 200618 yr comment_168050 If I understood the original question and I'm not really sure I did, my answer would be if it's electronically fuel injected you will need some type of engine management. Maybe not the Nissan ECU but some type of engine management. FairladyZ747, ask lots of questions and be sure of the answers before you tackle the project you seem to be contemplating. May 19, 200618 yr comment_168054 ECU's are for pussies. Just get a buddy to stand on the front bumper and squirt starting fluid into the turbo impeller. No, as Stephen says you need a fuel source of some kind. I'd ditch the crappy stock injection setup and go with something aftermarket like megasquirt, that way when you decide to add boost and an intercooler and all the rest later on, you can add the appropriately larger injectors and the ECU won't be a limiting factor. June 8, 200618 yr comment_170419 No, you dont need a turbo ECU,What you can do is use something called a "HOBBS" Switch, this switch runs of vacum pressure from your intake manifold,You plumb this in-line from the Temp sender to the ECU and also plumb into your intake, when the engine gets on boost this switch tricks the ECU into thinking the engine is cold, than the ECU richens up the fuel mixture,However, im not really sure how much extra fuel this little device will supply, but for lower boost applications this would work fine,This is what they did with "Dealer" installed turbo kits on 280zx's, this is what im planning on doing with my 280zx - I have everything at the moment except the switch, costs about $60AUD, Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/20063-can-you-really-do-that/#findComment-170419 Share on other sites
