actually the pickup tube and sending unit are in the same section of tank, so what would baffle relief gaps being sealed have anything to do with this?

Are you sure you're both talking about the same kind of tank? There may be differences between years, ljust like other things

on my tank (5/72), they are separated by the baffle. The significance, for my car, is as I explained. You may not have the same scenario. It was just a small disclaimer about my experience.

Over the winter I removed my tank from my 260Z. I used the POR 15 method.

The tank had a lot of rust debris and varnish. I'm lucky in so much as I not only have a large sandblast cabinet and an indoor power wash (for cleaning silk screens) big enough for a gas tank but also a walk in oven for accelerating the curing time. Pretty much like the above methods. I also sandblasted the outside and painted it. I've only had the tank this way for about 2 months, I checked the fuel flter just yesterday and it is clean as the day I installed it. (When I put the tank back on the car) Long term? Who knows. I followed instuctions pretty much to the letter and didn't take any shortcuts.

I also used the POR 15 products to do both the inside and outside of the tank on my 73 240Z. It worked very well.

Good post ... I went with the Por-15 fuel tank liner becuase I was already buying a lot of stuff from them. I let mine cure for a good 4 days (all of them outside when possiable in the warm Texas sun) just to make sure everything was cured as I had a small pool of the stuff that didn't come out of the tank. The car runs great and it is holding up nicely.

One interesting note. My uncle had the car's tank boiled about 5 years ago (then one year of use before it was garaged again) in those 4 years of just sitting in the garage it accumulated a TON of rust (about two hand fulls). These Z cars at the very least need to be run at least once a month, and if possiable driven to keep them from going bad. I also had a wire from my coil to my Ignition Module rust out in those 4 years. That was a 500 dollar nightmare to find! I'm still trying to sort out the brake problem at the moment ...

It has been six days since the lining of the tank. The product is hard enough that I can not put a thumb nail dent in it. It will be a while before fuel goes in so it will have a long cure time. I did get a mirror on a stick and looked at the screen and tube, all in order. I was concerned about the gap in the baffel so a friend brazed a quarter inch bit on a long rod and we put two holes in the very thin baffel. Used magnets on a stick for the shavings. Took longer to make than do, but I have no worries of 2 tanks, yes the sender is seperate from the tube on this 7-3-73 (stamped) tank.
