All 77-78 280Zs came with hood vents and a hood designed for them. They are functional in that they do let air (and anything else) in. The mirrors you can find but I don't think the stripe kit is available any longer.

What style mirrors are you looking for? Motorsport Auto which specializes in Z's has a few different kinds to choose from. http://www.thezstore.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=OM

For your question on the vents- Yes, the hood vents were on the Z's factory on the 1977-1978 280Z's. Were they functional? You better believe it :D They helped tremendously to allow the heat from the engine to escape.

Anyway, welcome aboard to the wonderful world of Z's. It's like they used to say in there commercials "Once you get inside a Z, the Z get's inside you" :D:D

Looks like Stephen beat me to the hood vent answer LOL

Avoid the replica mirrors. They look good for a while, but over time they loosen up and don't hold thier adjustment. They'll flop all over with bumbs and vibrations. You can see them in my gallery if you want, but I wouldn't buy them.

A Set of NOS Nissan supplied Racing Mirrors - as used on the Black Pearl's just sold on e-bay for $405.00. See Item Number 8065716766

You can find them in used condition at very reasonable prices.

On a Black Pearl you really should have the correct mirrors if you want to keep the Stock Look.

FWIW,

Carl B.

I agree the stock mirrors would be best. I just mentioned the ones from MSA incase you needed an alternative.

Virto, the mirrors on your Z look fine to me. Don't trash them because the problem can be solved by simply tightening the two screws behind the mirror glass. Make sure you do that soon because if they are loose, they will only get looser with bumps/vibration and the head of the mirror will fall off eventually. :paranoid:
