What is this?

They're seatbelt straps to keep the driver and passenger side seatbelts (next to the trans tunnel) from falling between the seats and tunnel.

It mounted under your console using (I believe) the center screw that holds the console down. Most people took them off. Didn't see many in the junk yards, so they may be somewhat rare like hubcaps.

....opps....I forgot to tell you, the bottom of the " V " shape faces the rear of the vehicle

So where did the other ends attach? I can't quite envision how they worked?

Yes, as victor stated, the apparatus looks much like what one can find in an adult "book" store, kinda like a garter, of sorts.

Ahhh! OK, I understand now. Did all years come with these? Or only certain years?

Shouldn't be too hard to make one, if I should decide I wanted one. How long are the legs?

Good question. I haven't measured, but I would venture to guess somewhere in the neighborhood of about 5 inches from the leather to the tip of the loop. I will try to get you something definite soon.

Not sure how they were secured on the early consoles but on my 72 it lay on top of the tranny tunnel under the console with the small canvas section facing the rear. The two nylon loops hung out from under the console (one on each side) and seatbelt was fed thru loop.

The hole in the canvas is where the single screw in the middle of the console goes thru to keep the straps secure.

Hi Arne,

I am probably wrong on this but my 71 didnt have one. Had the console with the ashtray in front of the shifter. Maybe if Chris Wenzle is reading this he will know for sure.

Although Mat's car is older than my 71 was and apparently he has it on his. Mine may have been MIA before I got mine.

FWIW,

Chris A.
