Over Fenders!

I just recived a set of japanese overfenders, and I know a few of you have done this allready, I understand the basic idea, pop rivets etc. Did most of you pull your fender first before the placement?

anyone have any progress pics of there process in history or something?

Based on the lack of response, it might be due to the unfamiliarity with "japanese overfenders".

Not familiar with that term myself, so I can only presume that you mean the fender add-ons as the 432 had. (I believe.)

Overfenders are what the Japanese call the add-ons like the 432 had. Overfenders can be place on by using rivots through the cutout spots. When I lived in Japan I used to go to Nostalgic Garage events with my friend who was always looking for these "overfender" things....I did not know what he was talking about until he located a set of what I thought were "fender flares".

I don't think you need to pull the fender off. Just mark it and cut the part of the fender off that is going to be covered by the flare. In the back this requires welding the fenders back together again because the wheel wells are a major structural component. You can just stick them on over the stock fenders, but that's more for form than function. I'm not so sure about the form either though, because if you run tires that don't rub on the stock fenders then it looks like the tire is 3" inside the edge of the fender. Not good form IMHO.

To attach I'd use nutserts (a nut you can pop-rivet into a piece of sheet metal) and stainless cap screws.

The Fairlady Z432 or Z432-R did not have overfenders! It was the Fairlady 240ZG that had them.

You can install them without removing the fenders. Jmortensen is on the money in regards to welding up the rear fenders I believe. Though I would (and did) use pop-rivets, as this is what Nissan used.

I wonder if Alan is watching? He would probably be the most helpful, being the only (??) member I know of on this board with a car with overfenders from factory.

Im making a few sets of these moulded from japanese flares off the ZG.

Ill be going down the rivvet route with mine,as im finishing off a ZG replica using the white GS31 in my avitar.Ill post some pics when i get back onto making them (sorry nzeder),time has been tight lately.......pregnant wife and all

I dont see why you would need to remove the fenders. Would probalby be easier to fit the over fenders with the guards on the car. Just tape them in place, or have a friend hold them in place, and drill the holes. Then rivet them on.

If the cars not lowered, and you dont have really wide tyres you wont need to cut the guards, but then you dont really need over fenders if you dont have wide wheels.

Not a problem know the feeling :) also you don't need to stress about making a set - I have decided to sell the ones I have already (only just made the call in the last day or so after a chat to the bro)

by pulling he meant rolling the fenders and slightly flaring them. not taking them off completely. am i correct?

yea pull them, as a roll, like many cars do to fit lower offset rims, I was wondering if I should cut ? or could i roll and the flares cover the roll out..
