DatsunZsRule Posted May 26, 2006 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2006 Hello all, I need a new battery for my '77 280Z. I went to get one from my local Nissan dealer because yes, I want a genuine Nissan Battery The guy at the parts desk said the part # is no longer available. He said he can get one if I give him what is called a group number which is on the battery to get the correct size. As of now I just got off work and I have my Z parked in my storage garage about 15-20 minutes away from my house. Would anyone here be able to tell me what the group number is? I'd greatly appreciate it Thanks in advance,
1973Z Posted May 27, 2006 Share #2 Posted May 27, 2006 Group 24 should be the size.
DatsunZsRule Posted May 27, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted May 27, 2006 Never mind guys I wasn't able to make it to the dealer on time. Parts was closed so I had to settle for one at Batteries Plus up the road. I'm still happy though. They carry really good Name Brand batteries there. I'm just a big Factory Nissan guy Thanks anyways,

1973Z Posted May 27, 2006 Share #5 Posted May 27, 2006 No problem, glad you found a battery. I have switched to the Optima red top battery since I autox the car and I didn't want to have to worry about acid spilling out and rusting out the battery tray/fender with my crazy driving : )
DatsunZsRule Posted May 27, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted May 27, 2006 Cool The place I purchased my Battery carried those Optima Batteries They had all top of the line batteries in that place. I was impressed.
EScanlon Posted May 27, 2006 Share #7 Posted May 27, 2006 If possible, and it isn't always, is to get a REVERSED Pole battery. This would place the Negative pole under the fender and the Positive out and closest to the motor. (This is for LHD cars, and NOT for RHD.)This does entail getting a longer Negative Cable, but the additional safety factor of not having to worry about the battery's positive post coming into contact with the body, or when you jump start or are jump started is a plus. Unfortunately, it isn't easy to find them.FWIWE
sblake01 Posted May 27, 2006 Share #8 Posted May 27, 2006 In other words, a 24F rather than a 24. They're not hard to find if you don't mind an Autozone battery and I believe Interstate still has them also. (But he already bought a battery)
DatsunZsRule Posted May 27, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted May 27, 2006 Yeah, Installed the new Battery in my Z this morning and went for a nice cruise It works great. Fits like a glove in the battery tray Plus the thing I love is it's got a handle Old one didn't and was a pain in the a$$ lifting it out and putting in when storing it winters. beandip Posted May 27, 2006 Share #10 Posted May 27, 2006 I simply went to Costco . $48.00 comes with a 4 year replacement guarantee and is covered for 100 months pro rated. I have had one of there batteries in the past that was only guaranteed for 84 months that started to fail after 4 years. they gave me a 50% refund . The battery is well within the specs called for by Nissan . It has a carrying handle also. . They carry gel batteries also. For around a hundred dollars. nwcubsman Posted May 28, 2006 Share #11 Posted May 28, 2006 Optima also carries a reversed pole battery. For what its worth. Nice suggestion E!
Arne Posted May 28, 2006 Share #12 Posted May 28, 2006 Yeah, when I had to buy a battery for mine when I bought the car, I got the 24F with reversed posts. Works quite nicely, if you're not too concerned with strict originality.
