Battery question

Hello all,

I need a new battery for my '77 280Z. I went to get one from my local Nissan dealer because yes, I want a genuine Nissan Battery :D The guy at the parts desk said the part # is no longer available. He said he can get one if I give him what is called a group number which is on the battery to get the correct size. As of now I just got off work and I have my Z parked in my storage garage about 15-20 minutes away from my house. Would anyone here be able to tell me what the group number is? I'd greatly appreciate it :)

Thanks in advance,

Never mind guys LOL I wasn't able to make it to the dealer on time. Parts was closed so I had to settle for one at Batteries Plus up the road. I'm still happy though. They carry really good Name Brand batteries there. I'm just a big Factory Nissan guy ROFL

Thanks anyways,

No problem, glad you found a battery. I have switched to the Optima red top battery since I autox the car and I didn't want to have to worry about acid spilling out and rusting out the battery tray/fender with my crazy driving : )

If possible, and it isn't always, is to get a REVERSED Pole battery. This would place the Negative pole under the fender and the Positive out and closest to the motor. (This is for LHD cars, and NOT for RHD.)

This does entail getting a longer Negative Cable, but the additional safety factor of not having to worry about the battery's positive post coming into contact with the body, or when you jump start or are jump started is a plus.

Unfortunately, it isn't easy to find them.

FWIW

Yeah, Installed the new Battery in my Z this morning and went for a nice cruise :D It works great. Fits like a glove in the battery tray :) Plus the thing I love is it's got a handle LOL Old one didn't and was a pain in the a$$ lifting it out and putting in when storing it winters.

I simply went to Costco . $48.00 comes with a 4 year replacement guarantee and is covered for 100 months pro rated. I have had one of there batteries in the past that was only guaranteed for 84 months that started to fail after 4 years. they gave me a 50% refund . The battery is well within the specs called for by Nissan . It has a carrying handle also. LOL . They carry gel batteries also. For around a hundred dollars. Gary
