Posted May 29, 200618 yr comment_169150 I have a number of the gear-reduction type starters; believe they are from the 280ZX?; and want to find out if they will work on a L24 motor. Seems like they fit the tranny hsg., but not sure if the solenoid kicks in far enough. Also, are there any advantages to using this type of starter? May 30, 200618 yr comment_169167 I have used them for years, lighter weight, lower current draw, faster starting, what's not to love. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/20220-starter-motor-compatability/#findComment-169167 Share on other sites
May 30, 200618 yr comment_169183 Will, do you have a Nissan part number on the gear reduction starter and the specific years (and engine configuration if applicable) that these were in originally? I'd like one and don't want to get screwed by a new parts guy that just pulls any old Z starter and not the gear reduction model. Also, are there any physical differences that are obvious which I could look for (pix would be great!)? May 30, 200618 yr comment_169188 Gear reduction starters look considerably different. The first 3 pictures are all gear reduction, the fourth is a normal starter.
