i am putting a head together to replace the one that has gone bad on my l28. the e88 on it has a bad valve in #6. the motor has flat top pistons and su's on it. i am putting a n42 on it which i have polished the intake and exhaust ports. the e88 has a cam with green paint between the intake and exhaust lobes and the n42 has red paint. what is the difference and which would be better for what i have going. mc75z

All 3 have the "E30" on them but the one with the green stripe has "E30" and a "B" on the opposite side before the stamping of Japan.

The 2 red are the same but has an "H" & an "A".

Do you know the differences?

If they are stock Nissan Cam.'s...

13001-E4126 'A' Camshaft (L24/L28 to 8/81)

13001-P3026 'B' Camshaft (L28ET A/T to 7/82)

13001-N3636 'C' Camshaft (L26)

I wouldn't recommend using the "B" cam - for other than a Turbo engine. For stock cam's - the L26 cam has the best profile for street use.. slightly higher lift and duration according to Nissan.

I don't know where the "H" came from...

Here is an example of what a cam I.D. could look like on the end of the shaft. I used a mirror and a camera to get this shot and then printed it in reverse image to make reading easier. Little tricky but possible. Find out what you have as a place to start from.

Before I sent my cam to be reground over at Delta they told me to look at the side of the cam. I think it was between the #2 & #3 lobes there is a casting number on the side of the cam. If I remember correctly the # 1 cam was from the earlier L24 the # 2 was better and came later 73-74 and the # 3 was the best. I'm going from memory here and it's been a while since I had my cam done so if I'm wrong here I appoligize in advance. Hopefully someone else knows what I'm talking about.
