oh $^!#, I found out that one side's sleeve has 46mm and on the other side is 33mm!

I would kill the pre-owner of my car!

I felt something wrong when I sat the sleeve hiding much inside the bushing!

It took little 'work' to get the rod in a fit it back through the ball-joint/link bolt holes. I think it's because those bushings are so stiff. It's in though

in the attached pictures is my left hand comp. rod with the new bushing on the right and the right hand comp. rod with the old bushing on the left, look how did that sinner make the assembly!

on pic2 the sleeves that have 46mm and 33mm which I assume wrong for both refering to Palmer's post about the length being 2 inches=>51mm!

pic3 shows the sleeve with one bushing rubber and see how short it is! it'll hide if I insert the second one almost at the middle of it!

so what do u think of those people guys!

oh Palmer, this is a new sleeve that the dealer claimed that all datsuns have, it is "about" 2" long.. is it the same length you were mentioning by "exactly 2 inches"??

will it make a big problem to have it like this if it is shorter?

The energy suspension bushing for the compression rod I recevied where fitted with the 'flat' sides in contact with each other. (confusing):surprised

The Chilton repair manual has an extra note that says: '...that being with the rounded edge of the bushing contacting the mounting hole on the vehicle.'

The sleeves that came with the set are 52mm in length.

I think I will fit them according to the note in the Chilton manual.

maybe it is just a packing issue that made them put them in that order, but according to most of people and what I see logical, I would sat that the rounded side will be put into the cup in the cahssis.

I have them allready installed and seem to be right!

Hey guys, sorry to revive and old thread and controversy like this, but I just re-assembled my suspension using what I believe to be the original TC rod bushings which were still in good shape, and it appears that the flat sides originally faced the body. I'm confident in this because I could see 3 convex impressions in the rubber that matched 3 dimples in the cup on the body side. In addition to that, the larger rounded side was slightly worn as the result of being exposed to sand and dirt which got in between the bushing and the large washers then rubbed around as the suspension flexed.

Note that my car is an un-molested, 1 owner, 58,000mi car that was always garaged. I see no reason why the bushings would have ever been replaced/removed by the PO or anyone else. Based on the condition of the rest of the suspension parts, as well as the original condition of the remainder of the car, I believe these to be the original bushings installed from the factory, but this is pure speculation on my part.

The Nissan parts catalog shows them installed with the thick side of the bushing towards the frame mount.

An therein lies the controversy.....I'll trust a perfect fit over a lousy picture anyday.

I just changed mine, the old ones were installed as per the parts catalog. The new ones went in the same way, and fit perfectly. Its also logical that they would be installed that way. The load on the bushing is going to be from the body, not from the washer, therefore the heaviest portion of the bushing would go towards the body.
