Rear Strut inserts

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I was just wondering as i can't really get a clear answer on this....

Did any Australian 240z come with 55mm diamtre struts or were they all 51mm???

Some people say that they were all 51mm some people are saying that some of the very late models are 55mm...

Is this true and if so how can you tell without removing the struts which ones you have....

I'm pretty sure the 55 started appearing on the not so early 260's.

I've just measured 51 on my late 240, the early 260's where very similar to the 240 so maybe a changeover occured late 74/early75?

edit: Just grab a caliper & measure them....

Early 260Zs (like mine) most certainly have the smaller 51mm strut. Off the top of my head I thought it was upto around october '74. Could be wrong on the exact date.

Anyone happen to have a spare pair of rear strut/hub/lower control arm assemblies from a 240Z or early 260Z laying around?

FFP

cant give you a definite answer on that...seem to remember reading on a previous post that there is a height difference between 240z and 74.5 + 260z rear struts (from perch to top of strut) but then the later 260z had a taller strut top insulator , so if you used the 240z type would the height be the same???? Cant give you a definite answer

You're in Oz, so give Warren at All Z Parts a call (02)9476-0966, if he cant answer that, no one can

Cheers

Next questions is... Can you put the 260z rear struts into a 240z the entrie strut setup???

would this effect the ride hight or anything like that also is it a strait bolt on job....

Yes, you can bolt the whole assembly into your 240z but, it will raise the ride height approximately 2 inches...okay if you like the "rally" look. The PO of my car had done this. I found out when I went to replace all struts and springs on my 72z and the rears didn't fit. They were too small. I had to find a set of 240z rear strut tubes to fit back in. I still have the 260/280z rear strut tubes although I don't know why? I won't be using them again. I hope this answers your question.
