anybody else noticed having a problem connecting to the site or having pages take forever to load?

seems to have started about 2-3 weeks ago where anytime i try to get to the site, the error "connection timed out" or "unable to connect" to classiczcars server pops up. have to retry multiple times before finally connecting. when finally connected, it takes forever to load page (almost like i was back on dialup). occasionally i get lucky and the site loads like it used to, virtually instantly.

nothing has changed on my end, any other internet access has no problems. if i click on a link to an outside site from within the Zpage, i connect with that site immediately. if i click a link within the site, there's a good possibility it will time out.

i've noticed a lot of site upgrades and originally figured it was tied to that or general maintenance being done (much appreciated Mike). but it sucks that it's a hit or miss operation just loading the page.

let me know if anybody has been experiencing something similar.

thanks

yes sir...Ive seen it too...Might be his ISP (Internet Service Provider) having some issues with their equipment. Next time it happens I'll run a program I have which shows all the hops to the website and see if I can see anything going on....

ran a tracert already.

it seems to start to really bog down at savvis.net and then at ev1servers.net where i'm assuming the site is hosted. 10ms avg thru my comcast.net connection, 13ms avg thru att.net. then it seems to start to hit the wall at savvis with 51 ms avg, ev1servers at 55ms avg.

but that's only when it gets thru!

Hey guys, let me know if this is still a problem. I had to tweak some settings on the server to make sure we are allocating enough memory to the proper processes. Our firewall is pretty tough, although it takes up a good chunk of memory.

I'm also looking into the bog-down at the ISP level. Thanks!

Maybe Mike has fixed the problem. I don't know. Keep trying if you have another problem. Every little bit helps of course so post if it happens again.

Eventually it'll all get worked out I'm sure. And then of course something else will pop up! That's the way running a website works I guess. Sometimes it runs like a well oiled machine and other times more like my old Z car.

Don't forget to extend a thanks to Mike for his hard work (if you haven't already). I'll say my thanks right here. Cheers and thanks! Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback guys! This last issue was an interesting one. I discovered that my Linux kernel was compiled for a dual-processor machine and we are only running a single processor! The OS was re-compiled and it should be better after a reboot.

Ok, all is complete with the world. Server rebooted and came up just fine. Now we'll wait and see if the connection issue gets bad over time again. I'm actually hoping for some better performance on my back-end processes with database dumps, cron jobs, etc. I seem to get excited over the dumbest things. HA!

LOL Welcome to my world! I don't know how I'd get through my day without rsync and amanda. Add squid, nagios, sendmail and cyrus to the mix, and that's my life.
