Help my distributor

Well I just got my 1978 280Z automatic yesterday and I decided that I would change the Dist cap and rotor. The car was idling ok but a little rough. I drove it 150 miles on highway to bring it to its new home and it ran fine. Anyways, I changed the dist cap and rotor and tried to be careful to put the correct plug wire on the correct dist connector. I did not take pic of it first.....big mistake because I am not sure if I did get the plugs wires on the right connection on the dist after all. I have checked the wires for correct sequence of firing order and they are correct. The question is on orientation. Can someone take a pic of their dist and send it to me at widget777@centurytel.net with the number one plug wire clearly shown?? If you can't shoot a picture, can you tell me where the number one plug wire is relative to theh forward distributor cap retainer clamp? Thanks

The firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 and the rotor spins counter-clockwise. Some caps have a mark where #1 is and are tabbed so that you can only install the cap on the dizzy one way. If this is the case with yours, this should be easy. If #1 is not marked you can find it by rotating the crank pulley until the mark on the pulley lines up with the timing mark representing TDC on the timing indicator. If the rotor tip is facing the front of the car, you found #1. If not you're 180deg off. In that case rotate the crank 180deg until the markes line up on the pulley and the rotor tip faces the front of the car, then install the plug wires in the order above.

Here's a link to a page detailing a swap to a 280ZX dixxy with a pic of the order on the cap and the general position of the rotor in position #1. It should be roughly the same as a 280Z. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.

enigma is right . Here is one easy way to find TDC on #1 . remove the plug on #1 and turn the engine over with a socket on the crank pully nut. With your finger on the plug hole when the piston comes up on compression stroke you will feel the pressure. Then look at the position of the rotor . It is pointing to #1 then follow the sequence of the fireing order connecting the wires. You most likely want to look at the plugs any way . Congrats. on the new Z . Gary:cheeky:
