Attaching door Moisture Barrier

the PO used TAR:angry: :angry: to stick the moistrure barrier on the doors of my car. Since the plastic just fell away. I'll put on new ones from dry-cleaning bags. But what's a good stuff to use on it?

What glue? You need to have something that won't get hard, and comes off if you need to. I was thinking that gummy stuff thatt is used to stick credit cards to the paper. YOu need to be carefull with tape, to pick one that won't dry out. I don't want to have to be pulling the door panels every spring.

Weatherstrip adhesive....just a guess you understand.

Plumbers putty. Won't dry out, sticks well, easy to remove if you ever want to. But, rather than using dry cleaning bags, I'd suggest a roll of plastic from the hardware store. Even the thinnest (4mil) will last even longer that the original material.

FWIW, I used plastic covers that come with new mattresses. They were free and the material was very heavy duty. I used the door panels to make a template, cut them with scissors and put them on with weatherstrip adhesive. You will probably ruin the plastic when (and if) you have to remove them, but as I said they were free...

The dry cleaning bags were suggested in the Wick Humble book. I know they're really thin, but free. Tyvek would be perfect, if it was translucent.

Maybe the DIY store has smaller rolls of the heavy plastic?

ACE Hardware has rolls of plastic sheeting that I've used for moisture barriers in cars, in my enclosed patio, etc. It can be cut to shape easily and doesn't rip when you try to remove it.

Go to your auto paint supply house and get a box of rope calk. Roll out strings as thin as you want to attach the moisture barrier. Do not cover the drain holes at bottom of door frame. This calk stays pliable and will not dry out. Hope this helps.

I got some 4 mil plastic from the Home Depot- 3x50 foot roll. The plumber's putty didn't work at all tho. It just slides off when I put it to the paint. I ended up using clear "Hockey tape." I could re-=do the tap/putty/caulk later if I want to.
