I think depends on the kind of mods you have in the car.
There's your answer. SUs will do fine for up to a moderate L28 - medium compression, mild street cam and decent exhaust. If you're planning to go farther than that, you'll probably want Webers or Mikunis.

As most people know, SUs work very well on modified L6 engines. Rebello Racing has an L6 engine w/SUs that puts out approximately 285 HP @ the crank. Of course the SUs have been opened up to 50mm.

240ZX. 50mm sounds like a lot:knockedou . Next year if can goin to order a Rebello Engine.

I have the L24 engine E88. It´s not ready since the car is in the body shop and Im waiting for some money to start with the engine but I already have pacesetters header 6 2 1, XR3000 electronic ignition and PS92 Ignition coil.

The next month Im going to buy some parts for the engine like lightweight flyweel, and Centerforce II clutch, and stage III camshaft.

I have a pair of SUs (came with car and they are in bad shape:hurt:). But the car was running single carb when I got it. Plan to change the trany its 4 but looking for a 5speed and a R200 differential. 3.91:1 or 411:1.

So I belive Im going for Webers or Mikunis, as You said Arne.

I have run Ztherapy su's and loved tham and would recomend them for anyone with a lighter modded motor. I now have a set of Mikunis and they run great and sound increadible. The motor has high comp and a better cam and some head work. The SU's would probably work and give me close to the power on the lower end but I would not have the top end power (past 7k) that the Mikunis have.

SCCA EP 240Zs run the OEM SUs on a 2.4L engine and make around 250 horsepower at the crank. The EP racers run SUs because the rules require them (the 240Z is a limited prep EP car). If allowed most would run triples and would probably be able to get 25 more horsepower out of the same engine, depending on the chokes allowed. Conversly, putting triples on a stock engine probably won't get you much.

Most definitly depends on your setup...what kind of setup were you planning on doing???

and your needs of course...what are your expections when your done fixing up your motor? (are we ever REALLY done???) do you want something the run fast 1/4 mile times or an autocrosser type or?

Yep I have one of these motors with the 50mm SU's and as my 18yr old honda driving Son would say..."it's Hella fast" the 1st time i took him out for a demo run it scared the Sh*t out of him....has incredible torque

and pulls like a son of a bitch...

but...If I went with the triples instead....id probably gain 15-25 hp easy...

Are you doing any internal work on the motor?

if not, SU's might be all you really need...

There is a member on this web site that turns in the 12s with his 240 running SUs and street tires. You did say stage III cam , so you would most likely have such a over lap that the vacuum dependent SUs for the street could be Balky . If you are planing a street driven car . I think you might look into the cam a little more , for drivability reasons , at normal driving speeds . So much depends on what you intend for the Z . Such a hi-reving cam will kick the power band up from 3K to 6500 .

I ran SU's with a .490/280 cam pretty close to the Stage IV and it did fine on the street, it was a lot better than the previous smaller cam that I had, which was better than the puny stocker. Of course I also did it with no vacuum advance on my ZX distributor.... ;-)
