I looked through the forums couldn't find a answer. I'm about to send a hood support rod out for replating for a early 74 260z , from what I can tell Zinc/Yellow Chromate appears to be the original finish. I can't tell how the attaching screw were finished. Does anyone know how they were originally finished? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

It's getting more and more rare to see Cad specified on engineering drawings for plating steel, zinc plating per ASTM B-633 seems to be the favorite replacement.

I believe clear was the original color but I'm not certain, I'd plate the mounting screws the same color as the rod. While you're at it, consider any of your other fixtures, brackets, bolts, etc. that need plating as well.

All of your nuts/bolts/washers/small parts will get sent through a barrel plating process, other large parts will get racked. Since the plater has a minimum charge, see how much you can get done for that price.

Good luck with your car!
