Soldering iron to remove injector hose?

I need to replace the hoses that connect the injectors to the fuel rail in my 77 Z, so I pulled out the trusty FSM for a few pointers. The FSM method to remove the hose from the tail piece of the injector is to use a soldering iron to make a 3/4" (ok, officially .787") long slit, then pull the hose off the injector. Has anyone done this before? Any other ideas?

Yeah, it works pretty good. Just use a small sharp tip on the soldering iron. Might want to use some sort of glove on the hand holding the fuel injector (Just in case you slip) Should not take you more than a couple of minutes each....

Sounds resonable as those hoses are very tight. I played with an injector setup when selling an complete intake. I was trying to make a more compact package to ship. The hoses wouldn't come off for me so I found a bigger box. Anyhow, the soldering iron method should work fine using a small tip unit. You could also use an exacto craft knife and a BIC lighter too. The idea is not to score the injector so a high pressure leak doesn't occur later.

The knife works well and you don't have to put up with the stink. Just cut carefully. I've done it several times and no leaks.

Well the soldering iron worked.......not so good. Lots of smoke and burning rubber smell, but very little cutting. And this was with a new 150 watt soldering iron. I ended up using a razor blade knife to cut off all but the part inside the collar at the end of the hose. I had to pry that out of the collar using the tip of a small screwdriver. Not a fun job. Now to send them off for cleaning and flow testing.
