Did a little more research on the 1980 10th Anniversary Z that's posted in the classified section. It apparently has never been titled and has less than 200 miles on it. The dealer in Alabama is asking $150,000 for this car! What do you think? Would you pay $150,000 for a perfect example of a 1980 limited production Z?

The gentleman (and I use that term loosely) started a thread over at Zcar.com. Either he does not know what he is doing, or he is just looking for people who have more dollars than sense. He has many other cars at his website GROSSLY overpriced. While a car is worth whatever someone will pay for it, there is some reason involved.

He equates rare with valuable. He doesn't realize (or doesn't want to admit) that a pristine Yugo is rare, but one would be hard-pressed to call it valuable.

A 10th Anniversary 280ZX is just a badge and paint treatment. Low mileage means it's a low mileage 280ZX.

At least two different 10th AE's with less than a thousand miles and in pristine condition - were worth $28K to at least two different buyers within the last two years. (about what they cost when new).

I'm an accountant by profession and $150K does not equal $28K. I am not saying that there is not someone out there willing to pay the $150K, just that that person may not be that good at math.

I believe the two AEs Carl mentions are the same ones once owned by the owner of the now defunct North Freeway Datsun dealership here in Houston.

He kept them on the showroom for many years and then in storage after the dealership went out of business.

The zclub of houston held several concours events there and we always admired their pristine condition and low miles. (The miles then were 30 something for one and 50+ for the other!)

For $28K, they must have had a lot of dealer prep, etc. because according to NADA, the MSRP for a 1980 AE was $14,300.

I know that one of them originated there - the second one was a private sale, and I'm not sure where it originated. I've seen more extremely low mileage 10th AE's than any other type of special interest Z. Seems a lot of people kept them as future collectibles.
