Electronic fuel pump down, what to ask O'Reilly for?

The MSA electronic fuel pump I bought to solve vapor lock problems in Wyoming in 1990 has finally given up the ghost...I think. I used to hear it throbbing away when I switched the ignition on and I don't hear that anymore and the car obviously is idle and won't run. I'm assuming that the pump is toast or the harness piece the power wire was run off of is toast.

I bought the pump from MSA in '91 and wanted to replace it faster than waiting for MSA to send a new one. What can I tell the parts guy at the desk at O'Reilly or NAPA in terms of finding a suitable replacement?

Some members have used a mid 80's Mazda RX7 fuel pump. 4-5 psi is the pressure your looking for (if you still have SU carbs).

Do a search on Mazda fuel pumps and you will come up with the correct year.

The RX-7 pump is excellent. They run quiet as a church mouse and provide all the fuel needed in a typical carb'd L6. I run one on my 240Z and the other on my Onan 6.5k generator. The aftermarket units will definately require a regulator and most are noisy as hell (personal experience speaking).

Of all things what I wanted to replace the pump I had wasn't driven by what I wanted its replacement to be, but what O'Reilly was able to get their hands on in short order. I got some kind of Carter pump, very quiet, don't know what kind of volume it pumps but was enough to get it off the street and into the garage. Now I just have to figure out how to mount the thing on the wheel well.

The guy had a Holley blue too, looked like something off of my Dodge Cummins, offered it to me as an alternative.
