June 19, 200618 yr comment_171536 I have many friends who have painted their helmets, although I have not yet...Most people I talk to airbrush them with two stage paint.Ron Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/20475-helmet-painting-or-graphics/#findComment-171536 Share on other sites
June 19, 200618 yr Author comment_171542 I was thinking about painting a helmet a different color because sometimes you can get a good deal on one of a color you don't like. Maybe to match the color of the car. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/20475-helmet-painting-or-graphics/#findComment-171542 Share on other sites
June 19, 200618 yr comment_171545 Most helmets of that quality come with painting instructions (limitations) in the box. I know my Arai's always have, as did the Simpson. June 19, 200618 yr comment_171556 As Arne mentioned, be careful as painting may void the warranty or the rating of the helmet. Most of the people I know that are doing that kind of thing are using autoair colors (waterbase) then clearing the helmet with regular clear coat. Main thing to remember is that what makes a helmet work is the case fractures when it does it's job to spred the impact (my understanding at least, also one of the reasons they say a helmet should be replaced or checked if dropped), anything that hinders that process reduces the helmets impact factor. June 20, 200618 yr Author comment_171593 You are right, Lance. You wouldn't want to put chemicals or solvents on the helmet that might get into the resin it's made of, and weaken it. And like Arne said, a helmet should have painting info with it, so you know what you can use.thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/20475-helmet-painting-or-graphics/#findComment-171593 Share on other sites
