GT Badge

Hi folks. This is to help all you GT-R replica builders. Does anyone know if the red GT badge is specific to the KPGC110? I am asking because from what I've seen, it looks very similar to the R33/R34 GT badge. If it is, this would be an alternate source for the badge.

I do know that the Hakosuka GT badge is specific to the Hakosuka only - no other car used them.

The R33 "GT" badge is similar... pretty different though. The closest in shape, style and size is the C210 badge, which is almost identical.

I bought a set of C210 badges (which were not cheap, by the way) from Japan being told they were for C110. The pins - unfortunately - do not line up. The script, size and shape of the badge is slightly different too.

Miles, if you ever do come across some decent C110-specific red "GT" badges (reproduction or otherwise) for a reasonable price, please let me know! It is the only exterior item I am still trying to find.

P.S. Here's a picture of what an R33 "GT" badge looks like on a C110. This is Ray Ferguson's car.

G'day Miles!

If you spot any pics of my KGC10 prior to our April Bathurst gathering , you will see it wore the same R33 badges on the front guards. Thanks to a good friend (Thanks Nathan S!)this has been corrected. Below is what I believe to be the correct badges for the KPGC110 rear quarters. The KPGC10 badges are just for comparisons sake.

Do you have a pic of the 210 badges for comparison Lachlan?

Hi Jim,

Sure do. Attached is a C210 GT badge. Note the subtle differences.

Are you sure those are OEM C110 GT badges though? They seem to have a matte finish, and no pins which would be odd for badges in such good condition...

Ah who knows? Slurped off Yahoo auctions JP. Probably aftermarket ones made for GT-R copys? If they turn out to be correct I wouldn't worry about the missing pins. Use Sikaflex-252. As Elwood Blues says "..Strong stuff!" I used it as well as the pins to stop the badges being souvenired.

Anybody know if the original badges were diecast metal and enamel?..or were they always plastic? On the old 1964-67 Prince Skyline GT's the GT badges and Stylised P were originally stamped metal and porcelain like enamel colour, then became diecast metal with enamel paint colour. From scouring old pics from Yahoo auctions etc the 1968-9 C10's may have hade metal badges originally. It looks like all the repro stuff is in plastic.

What badges are on your Skyline Miles?

Jim.

From what I've seen the metal-to-plastic movement at Nissan seems to have been during about 1970-1971? All of the badges on my car were/are plastic, except for the grille "240K" badge which was metal. The GT-R one I have now is plastic, but could well be a reproduction item from Nissan or other - I don't know. I did see some red "GT" C110 badges on Yahoo Japan Auctions described as metal though, so who knows! I probably will never see let alone own a set of real ones...

I don't like the idea of using anything other than pins to put badges on the car... but I have been very tempted to remove the pins from the C210 items I have and just be done with it. The purist in me won't let me do that though!

I just got back from checking my car. Oddly enough, I have a mix of metal and plastic and I have no doubt that they are all original parts that came on the car when delivered to the first owner. The front and back badges that denote "2000 GT" are plastic. This is the same as the GT-R badges I bought for the car direct from Nissan. The side badges "Skyline" and the GT shield are metal. Looks like Lachlan might be right in thinking that the switch from metal to plastic started in 1970-71.

Good point, but yes.

They even went so far as to make the pin holes for the "Skyline" badge the same as the "Datsun" one. This is the reason why if you look closely at the "Datsun" badge you will notice weird blobs on the 'D' and the 'n'!
