The C110

Recommended Posts

Lock up you 240k's!

Today i had the unfortunate experience of "rising c110 value and desirability syndrome." I awoke this morning to find myself with an unexpected and unspecific sense of optimism, and coincidentally, id planned to make a real attack on the local classifieds paper, rising at a chirpy (for me) 8am.

Within seconds of purchasing said paper i was scouring the two-thousand dollar or less section, hoping to find a bargain c110 just waiting for a good home. Suddenly my eyes became transfixed. There it was, a one owner, auto coupe for $900 ono. The answer to my early optimism now lay before me. Quickly I jumped on the telephone and contacted the owner. Not home till 4pm, and ive got two others inspecting the car then, he said. Just my bloody luck, work doesnt finish till six.

Throughout my day i ponder and hope for the possibility that the car does not move. I arrive home, with baited breath and the contact number memorised, only to hear the phrase on the other end of the phone that i had been dreading all day. "Sorry mate, its gone..." Dejected, I began an inquiry into the conditions of the 'k's sale. "A couple of Afghanis were going to strip it and ship it off to the middle east." My heart sunk. Is this the outlook for the c110 in this country, I wondered...

Sorry to hear it Tom. What can you do? If I ever have to release mine, you are first in line. And I'm always keeping an eye and ear open. My parents live in the country and they tell me they see a red coupe driving around every once and a while. They have a standing order to chat to the driver when they seem him. You never know. It only took me two years to get my first !!!

Damn that sucks. Its bad enough that 240K coupes are rarer than 240zeds, but to have to compete with the middle east for our local cars.

Poor thing will probably end up with a V8.

Tom, you have to be ruthless. You should have asked to look at the car while the guy was still at work. Then if you liked it you could have rung him and told him to hold it for you untill he could get home, and you could inspect it better. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I'd be on the phone to the guy on the weekend, and see if the sale is still going through.

Talk about adding salt to a wound Craig!!!!!

What a pity Tom... It's a dog eat dog world! Craig is right, next time you've just got to be more aggressive. Offer more than they are asking if you need to.

I bought my parts car that way. It was sold when I rang up (9:30am) to a guy who was driving up from Toowoomba. I rang Peter (440K) to say thank you for giving me the heads up anyway, and he suggested I offered him more money! So I rang the guy back, offered him $200 more, and he took it.

Probably not the most polite thing to do to the other guy. But since when did ethics and 2nd hand car sales associate with each other?

Keep looking, there will be more :)

More Salt for the wound....

I phoned the guy up today to see if he still had the car, or if it had been taken away.

I was prepared to offer him double what he was asking for it.

He was asking $900ono. I would have offered $1800, but he said it had alread been taken away.

Then i asked how much he sold it for.

I hope you are all sitting down...

$650.

I almost swore at him, but managed to contain myself. Then I told him he could have probably got $1500 to $2000 for it easily.

He then asked what was so special about them, seeming to not believe my statment. I Told him they were an early Nissan Skyline, and there were a few Nissan enthusiasts the would love to have one.

The he started on saying how the Arabs want them but didnt know why, and that the first 2 people that looked at it wanted to ship them back to the middle east.

I told him that lots of Aussies want the cars too.

Maybe he feels a little stupid for selling it so cheap. I hope so.

The Advert reads:

DATSUN 240K, 1973, 6 cyl auto, one lady owner, excel mech, FSH, drives well, lic to Nov $900 ono.
