According to the service manuals on both my 1978 280Z and my 1970 240Z, the jack point isn't the front of the differential - it is the case itself. See the attached image. I have jacked my 280Z many times from that point, and it has never failed me yet!

Also, you could, if it is the pads rusted to the drum, just put the car in gear and try to back up after releaseing the cable. I've "broken loose" drums like that. It may not do the pads any good though. And I would be very tentative with the accelerator, so that you don't go screeching away if it breaks loose.
