Hello, Al here. I'm new to the forum.

Forgive me if I'm commiting a feax pau (sp?) by posting in the wrong place. I'm just trying to gauge interest in a 73 240z. It's an orange 5 speed that appears to be rust free upon a quick inspection. I'm told it runs very well, with no leaks. I will confirm everything myself. I may even make it my own daily driver, who knows?

Anyways, any and all opinions and advice on this car are welcome (what should I look for? problem areas? typical issues?) Also, any interested potential buyers, please let me know (although I have a habit of keeping everything...)

Thanks, and have a great 4th of July!

Al

Being a 73 is OK...I'm not the expert here but make sure it doesn't have the flat top carbs...I know the 260Z had them but I don't know when Datsun started using them.

Also look in the battery tray for rust and under the floor carpeting for floor pan rust.

Sorry I couldn't help more but welcome to the club!

Wheel wells, lower rocker panels, frame rails and as noted above, the floors (check under the seat!) were the problem rust areas on those. Carbs is another feature to look at as well. The SU's are pretty popular, but you have to stay on them and make sure they are adjusted properly or it's a big problem.

You can probably also count on the dash being cracked unless it has already been replaced or covered. Make sure you check on the lights as well. My first Z was a 73. HLS30125656. Is it bad I still remember that VIN even though the car has been gone almost 20 years? I have issues!

'73 had flat top carbs from the factory. They will run, occasionally without problems. The rear hatch opening as well as the previously stated battery tray area (look good here, almost all will have some rust), doglegs, lower doors, floor pans, frame rails. Watch out if it has a sunroof! Most states will allow the smog equipment removed from these, so check your local regs. It could be gone. Rust in the gas tank if this has sat without a full tank.

Rest assured, you will find plenty that needs doing. It is 33 years old!
