Fuel Issues.. After getting bad Gas

I bought the 79 280Z for my Step daughter she has had it for 6+ months and it has ran great. The other day her uncle drove the car bought some gas, right after that it died.

I went by replaced the fuel filter ( it looked like it had honey in it) the car now will idle, it has 30 PSI fuel pressure @ idle and 38 with the engine off. The readings were taken on the engine side of the fuel filter. I can spray carb cleaner in the air breather and the car will run fine and rev nicely. So I know it's a fuel issue. If I turn the key on for a few seconds then crank the car it idles fine for a few seconds then struggles to idle. If you hold the gas down it you can hear it Moan and backfire through the intake a bit. then when you let off it reves up for a second or two then goes back to rought idle.

Any Ideas?

I drained all the gas out of the tank using a siphon and letting the fuel pump push the last little bit out. I then added sea foam to 6 gallons of super unledded gas and put that in the tank. I wanted to pull the trumpet looking set of tubes off and use carb cleaner to clean the inside of the injectors but I was too afraid of tearing something up. it is all pretty well stuck together....

Trumpet tubes? Sounds like velocity stacks. This car isn't stock is it?

I knew he meant the fuel rail, after all it does kind of swirl around like a thin elongated trumpet body but leave the fuel rail alone for now. How did the Seaform, fuel filter and fresh gas work out? It almost sounds as if someone mischeivioulsly put something in your tank.

The Sea foam alloed the car to idle a little better. It has been a few days since I tried it. Last Time I cranked it, With the peddle to the floor it ran @ 500 RPM then slowly climbed to 1500 before dieing. I am very tempted at this point to get a couple of gallons of "safety cleen" Solvent and hook it up to a pump and simply let it cycle threw the fuel rails for a few hours and see if that will help. I would use carb cleaner (like you use when rebuilding a carb) but I suspect that it would hurt something.

Gas is lighter than water so if you got any water in your tank it has to be drained from the bottom too since that's where the pickup is for the fuel line. I had this happen about 5 weeks ago so I have more experience than I needed. Drain the fuel, put in dry gas, put in some good gas, drain the fuel. Put in more clean fuel, now disconnect the fuel line before the filter in the engine bay and run the pump until tha gas runs clear. Repeat at other points along the way until you get as far as (in your case) the injectors. Replace all filters. Put in new gas and some more dry gas, then try running the engine.
