Tomo- where did you see that UA was involved? Last I not I caught, WB was still holding the rights. Either way it's bound to be good because the Wachowski bothers (of Matrix fame) have gotten involved.

UA, UB, WB, whatever... At least it looks like the movie is going to get finished.

I looked up the movie, and according to imdb.com, it's now "in production," and scheduled to come out next year. There was no information on the cast yet.

Technically it says "pre-production" and it has said that for awhile now, November-ish. I really hope they come through with it, I'm a Speed geek and having just had a boy of my own I'd love to deck him and his room out in a load of Speed Racer paraphanelia.

I posted too early. Just after I read that the movie was suoposed to come out in late May, 2008. I found some different dates. One even said it "might" come out in 2009!

This is going to be one of those movies that's rumored to come out for years before it actually ever shows up in theatres witha completely different cast/plot/production staff than it started with (see: Spiderman, originally slated to be directed by James Cameron back in like 1998, and the infamous Alien's vs Predator that was rumored to be getting made ever since the alien skull on the mothership scene from Predator 2 was shot...and look what that turned into...). That's my theory. I've been wondering who would be good in the different roles of speed racer, and I still haven't come up with anyone yet. Just so long as they have the same actor play both speed AND trixie, but they can change the color of their scarves just like in the cartoon so you can tell them apart.

Whatever, as long as they have Daisy Fuentes playing the part of Trixie.

Did you follow the link at the bottom to the discussion? They have a discussion forum. Some fool actually said, "so I wonder if this Speed Racer will be a drift racer and use bullet time stop motion effects" :mad: Since when does Gran Prix racing involve drifting!?? :mad: :mad:

I will have to register there just to put the fool right.

Personally, I hope that it won't be like the fast & furious junk. Maybe some drama & really great filmed action (they filmed real racing) like in the movie Gran Prix.

They're using real people as actors, but the racing seems to look like anime. I didn't see any of the naive stuff you might remember from the TV series. Overall, I think this movie would satisfy most 'car people.'

BEWARE.

At least now that the movie is coming. I think that even I would go to see this one.
