MSA exhaust installed: first impressions/dislikes...

I put the MSA exaust on my car, but haven't lowered it down to the ground yet so I can't attest to how low it hangs... (still up on roller stands.)

I was able to get the pipe snug up under the car body. I think the muffler and tail pipe fit very nicely, but then I haven't seen the stock exaust since I cut it off with a sawsall three years ago.

The part that I had trouble with was getting the little Y pipe onto the 3 into 2 header. I am still not sure how I was supposed to attach the Y pipe to the header... I went out and bought pipe clamps. I hope I don't live to regret that.

Arne, You used the picture of my system that I had installed locally. I started out with a glass-pac in the tunnel, also, but it was too quiet so I had it taken back off. The tone is now fairly quiet with no drone at any rpm, but you know there is a hi-revving 6 under the hood. To sum up: I used a Dynomax#17741 6: ROUND muffler it is 19 1/2" overall and 14" long w/ off-set pipes. My whole system is 2 1/4" and done in aluminized pipe. The whole system was under $200. I also had the muffler shop(Ken's Muffler in Fort Collins, CO[free plug]) weld in a 2 bolt connecter for easier removal of the whole system. I am going to post the pics on my pic site here. I too went with the MSA header and exhaust and had to have a local shop do the final fitting.

I thought I'd add a lesson learned to this thread. When I first installed it I had the stock cam and thought it was just a bit too loud for where I live. So i had an 18" glass pack installed just ahead of the rear axles. The sound was nice, not too loud with the windows open, and reasonable with the windows closed.

Later I switched to a mild cam and the sound changed a lot. The throatiness was reduced a lot, too quiet to my ears. Then I added triple webers and found that all I could hear was the intake of the carbs, so I removed the glass pack.

My point is that the cam has an impact on the sound of your exhaust, and if you have plans to change the cam, you may want to hold off on changes to the exhaust.
