Electrical Snafu? Advice please!!

get that sh!t cleaned out of the cowl area the best you can. Thats what causes rust in there. Many Z restorers that find cancer (rust) in the cowl area will walk away and keep looking for another Z because severe rust in the cowl area pretty much means the car is beyond repair so definately attend to that A.S.A.P.

Now about your other issues- Once you get that cable properly grounded and you've made sure all electrical connections are clean and tight along with your new Battery cables, try it out and see if all of the above have corrected the problem. Sure sounds like a case of dirty electrical connections or loose ground connections to me. I doubt it's got anything to do with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve because think about it, thats not going to make your charge light come on, then the car dies out and after a while then it works again and starts. Just my thoughts.

Good luck to you.

NEW PROBLEM!!

No spark to plug #6... so basically it's running like crap.

Brand new plugs, just checked resistance on the wire (7 ohms). Dizzy cap and rotor were just replaced 3k miles ago.

I popped off the plug wires from the dizzy cap today to make sure they were clean, and I used some electrical cleaner just to be safe... did my dumbassery screw me over here?

I need to figure this out before Sunday! o.o

Correct KenshinX. I'm sorry but Haynes manuals are crap

156324 is wrong. Its 153624 like I said before. Do a search here if you don't believe me. It's been answered on here hundreds of times. But anyways glad you were able to locate good info from a factory manual. That will help you a lot to get to the bottom of your problem. Hope you figure it out. Sorry I can't be of more help but I'm pretty far away from you :)

I appreciate the sentiment DZR. :)

Tyson, the internet "gang leader" of ZOOM over in Brooklyn Park has offered to help me out.

My Z is driveable as it is right now... it just... runs like crap is all (as any 6 cylinder engine car would if it were running on 5).

So the basic plan is I'm going to drive my Z out to his garage and we're going to test things. I've offered to bring him lunch in exchange for his help... I always buy food for people who help me with my car, and I've yet to hear any complaints. :)

I have a haynes manual and it says the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4.

Cover is a little different. It has the book number above the haynes logo -28010 (206) , and a 'printed on recycled paper' logo bottom left.

That must be a first edtion, with errors.
